As the 2013 football season has come to an end and we have named a Super Bowl winner, new information has arose about the Jonathan Martin racial discrimination suit. Martin, former Miami Dolphins player, reportedly stated in the Well’s report he was repeatedly bullied by his teammates. In actually Martin was not bullied based on my own interpretation. In fact, Martin was going through the process of bullying/hazing that most people go through on a regular basis. Through this paper I will discuss similarities in Martins argument dealing with regular day life. In the 144-page report, Jonathan Martin discussed how he was repeatedly harassed during his two years with the Dolphins. Football is a process where it is similar to bullying/hazing. For example, majority of fraternities and sororities go through this process with new candidates for crossing. Even though they don’t admit it, their process is to break a candidate down then build them back up in the process. Martin has to look at the situation as if he were a candidate as well. When you are starting a new job, there are always scenarios of bullying/hazing. Whether it’s dealing with workload or people and their personal attitudes, bullying/hazing is found. Also, going back to football I am almost certain this process has happened to other rookies in the NFL, but only Martin was the one that made it known. Well’s report also brought to light the fact that there may be an openly gay player to be drafted in the NFL.
