I. Name of Book/Author
A. 11/22/63
B. Stephen King
II. Why did you choose the book?
A. I chose this book because I am interested in the science fiction genre and I have so many things about the author Stephen King. I was at first reluctant to read the book because of the magnitude of pages; however, as the story progressed I could tell that it was worth it.
III. Book Summary
A. Jake Epping is a high school teacher in Maine. Jake is also the narrator in this novel. One day in his class he assigns an essay topic “The Day That Changed My Life” One student named Harry Dunning writes about the night his father murdered his mother and siblings; Jake is deeply impacted by the story. About two years later Jake is summoned to his frequent diner by the owner Al Templeton. Al was becoming deathly ill and because of this Al shows Jake his discovery. Al’s discovery is a time portal located in the back of his diner. This portal sends the user back to the year 1958 at always the same moment and place and when the user returns only two minutes will have elapsed. There is a suspicious man with a yellow card in his hat band which they refer to as the “Yellow Card Man” and he is also aware of the time portal. The portal can be used to change history but if you make a change once you visit the past again the change will be reset like it never happened at all. After Al discovered this portal he became obsessed with preventing the JFK assassination and planned to spend five years in the past waiting to stop Lee Harvey Oswald. Al had to give up on his plan because he had developed lung cancer so now he put the mission in Jake’s hands. Jake decides to test the portal out on Harry’s family. When he enters the past he notices the “Yellow Card Man’s” card had turned orange. Jake buys a gun and follows Harry’s father ready to kill him to prevent the murder of Harry’s mother and siblings. Jake saves everyone except Harry’s older brother. When Jake returns to the past he calls Harry’s

There are several things that I like about this book. First off, I love historical fiction, and this is the genre of this book. Also, despite the author being too descriptive, the book went at a steady pace. For me, pace usually determines whether I will read the book or not, and I never really hesitated, or thought about changing books.…

A great book is difficult to define. Some books contain endless action an exciting plot while others are more theological, but both make excellent reads. The Chosen by Chaim Potok, and Harper Lee’s novel To Kill a Mockingbird display this elegantly. Lee’s book starts with a trial and ends with a murder, but The Chosen, though less dramatic still possess the qualities of a great book. Both books deal with complex problems such as religion, race, justice, and friendship. In my opinion, The Chosen was a greater book because of its superior theme, plot, and connection between the reader and the characters.…

First of all, his book includes various examples of symbolism, poems, biblical, weather events, quest, political, and many more examples that change the meaning of the story. Without me reading this book I would have never stopped to think what’s the quest of the story, what does this event mean, is there a biblical reference and many more questions. This book has now taught me to look out for certain things to help me effectively read a book better than I did before reading How to Read Literature like a Literature. After reading this book and moving on to another novel allowed me to see the double meaning of the text. In where as if I hadn’t read the book by Thomas C. Foster I wouldn’t have stopped to think and take much consideration to the story. Additionally, this book made it clear to me that there is only one story and one story only. How could that be? Sounds unbelievable right but it right. The same story is repeated but with a new setting, different character names, different conflicts but still the same meaning and maybe the same ending. If it weren’t for this great novel I would have missed out on all the interesting parts of the story and there meaning. All in all, this book allowed me to gain so much knowledge on how to effectively read a…

    1. Stephen King invented the most straight-forward, humorous, and relatable memoir about writing in On Writing. Compared to his fiction novels, this while cleaner in gore, still does not beat around the bush when it comes to a piece of advice or a story from his childhood. His voice is genuine in ways that one would not expect from such a successful author, and while at times, he uses vulgar language, it is not written without a purpose. When giving advice on vocabulary, he wrote, “use the first word that comes to your mind, if it is appropriate and colorful” (118). His purpose is not to stun, bore, or just write, King wants to inspire those who read his book. Inspire them to read more, write more, learn, live, and love more than they had before. King and, “many of us proles also care… passionately about…

Although his book could have definitely been improved in many ways, especially in his habit to briefly explain his rising actions, no other book provides clear understandings of its plots. His book provides clear scientific explanations, and perhaps the most valid of its time while simultaneously providing a nifty adventure. His value of scientific knowledge incorporated into each of the characters was a very interesting read. He also grabs the attention of readers by presenting puzzles that may be of curiosity to his…
