Joan Of Arc Report
Joan of Arc was born in the village of Domre?my, in the Meuse River Valley in the year 1412, where she lived as the daughter of a wealthy tenant farmer. She lived in Europe during what was known as The Hundred Years War. As a girl, she spent most of her time in church, but on eday at the age of 7, she claimed she saw a vision from St. Micheal, telling her to be good. At age 13, the visions commanded Joan to travel to the lord known as the Dauphin to inspire his armies to clear the way to Roims for his own coronation. Her father forbid her to go, but Joan thought of the visions and went anyway. When she arrived in the Dauphin?s court, he made a servant dress as him and greet Joan as a test, but Joan went straight to the real lord and greeted him. The Dauphin was not entirely convinced of Joan?s mission, and months of indecision followed while she was questioned. But slowly an army was gathered, and the Dauphin equipped Joan with armor, horses, attendants, and even her own personalized banner. In spite of all, Joan maintained her innocence, and answered tricky questions with unaffected answers, and she said the saints commanded her still. Eventually, she admitted to her ?crimes?, but many thought that she didn?t know how to admit them correctly, and her sentence went from death to life imprisonment. This enraged the English, and it wasn?t long before Joan was accused of lying when she admitted her ?crimes?, and on May 30, 1431, at age 19, Joan was burnt at the stake. Charles VII made no effort to save Joan, but 25 years later he put through Joan?s request to see the Pope, and a religious court changed the judgement of 1431. On May 16, 1920, Joan was made a saint by the Roman Catholic

The Hundred Years War was a conflict between France and England from 1337 to 1453 and it began because of two distinct reasons; first, Edward III, an English king, believed he should be crowned king of France since he was a close relative of the former king, Charles IV. However, Philip VI gained the throne. Secondly, multiple kings of both France and England believed they should control Guyenne, a part of French territory under English rule, because of the power it gave them (Encyclopedia Britannica 849). As the spite for one another grew, France and England went to war with one another and the fight for control continued over a century. Towards the end of the war, around the year 1429, the English were…

In 1412, Joan was born to Jacques and Romée d’Arc, in the small peasant town of Domrémy (Biography.com). Instead, Joan tended to her father’s farm and herds, all the while learning how to spin yarn and sew. Despite the things the film got wrong, most of the important details were kept accurate. Joan was a peasant girl from Domremy, who claimed to have visions from God telling her to help Charles become king of France. She was entrusted with the French army and she did lift the siege at Orleans. Joan was tried by the church and burned at the stake. Additionally, much of the dialogue from the trial scenes were taken from the actual notes from her trial (Champion,…

In The Lais of Marie de France, poet Marie de France illustrates many different kinds of love. The main themes being marriage and extramarital affairs. From reading the lais, Guigemar and Bisclavret, I believe that Marie has a traditional view of marriage. I can assume that Marie believes a marriage takes two to work. I also can assume that Marie believes that either partner can cause a marriage to fail. In her stories she does not put the blame of a failed marriage on just the husband or the wife, instead she creates different scenarios that causes the audience to recognize that it is not just one gender that possesses certain characteristics. She plays with what society would consider masculine or feminine by giving the characters opposite…

In fact, she was even made a saint by the Roman Catholic Church. Yet she too did not have the cleanest record. During the Hundred Years War, the French were being beaten back by the English, primarily during the Lancastrian Phase. It was around this same time that Joan had visions from several different angels and saints, telling her to fight alongside the French in the war. King Charles, desperate to sway the course of the war, accepted. With her, the tide of the war turned in favor of the French. This did not sit well with the English who believed her to be a sign rom the Devil. So, when they eventually captured her they made sure she paid for it. They tried her before a court of only English citizens, accused of heresy. For both claiming she heard spiritual voices and wearing male clothing during battle. She was then convicted and burned at the stake for her crimes. Once again, even with such actions she was canonized for preaching her beliefs in the catholic church and fighting for them. However, this sort of behavior has not always worked out well for…

In “The Lais of Marie de France: Les Deus Amanz” Marie de France uses affections of the heart and mind to contradict one another. Two of the main characters each have fatal flaws that become the cause of their demise. The king and the noble young man acted selfishly by following their hearts instead of their heads, causing problems that could have been prevented. It is seen that using your mind would benefit more than going by the feelings in your heart.…

The queen appeared in the courtyard, giving orders about rounding up crates to hold the letters and handing over coins to the riders, whose eyes widened at the uncommonly generous offering. Joan and her friends had made it their routine to keep letters for their husbands in belt pouches that they now wore all the time. She dug into the pouch, extracted five missives that she had folded into small squares and sealed, then thrust them into the rider’s hands.…
