Jermaine Lamarr Cole better known as J-Cole was born in Germany but raised in North Carolina. Cole’s grades earned him a scholarship to St. John’s University in New York. During college, he knew he could make it in the music world. Jay-Z was Cole’s idol. He would stand outside his office, hoping and praying he would run into him, so he could give him a demo of his work. One day, Cole ran into his idol, and a couple of days later he received a call from the man. J- Cole was signed to Roc Nation. In 2011, Roc Nation released his first debut, Cole World. The story continues with Ville Mentality. James finally acknowledges that his life style will kill him, and he must change before it is too late. In the song, J-Cole incorporates a little girl’s voice that represents James’ daughter. He gives an insight on how it feels for a child to grow up without a father. James eventually finds a girl in She’s mine part 1; they fall in love. Cole tells how James doesn’t want to die anymore like he did in For Whom the Bell Tolls. He also tells how he wants to open up to this girl and tell her about all his problems, but he is afraid. Cole starts the next sing, Change, with “My intuition is telling me there'll be better days” saying since James has found a girl that he loves, things will become better now. Cole finally exposes his friend’s name, James. In this song, J-Cole finds out that James has died because of the streets. The next song, Neighbor, doesn’t add more information about James, but instead addresses some issues in the world. J-Cole bought a house in North Carolina so artists and producers could make music. The neighbors thought it was a house in which they sold and made drugs. Just because they were black males, the neighbors assume they were up to no good. Cole also mention Trayvon Martin, and how many African American males die

When a song is as heavily covered as Fats Domino’s “Ain’t That A Shame” from his album Rock and Rollin with Fats Domino you know that there is something special about it. With recording artists such as Pat Boone, Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, and even the 1970s rock group, Cheap Trick recording the song many people know at least one version. However the original version has a special something about it that helps it stand out from the many covers. One of my favorite songs, recently, has been J. Cole’s Love Yourz. This song relate to feelings that we can all relate to, feelings of envy and jealously. We often look at the life styles of those around us, and we see what they have, and we compare ourselves to them. We feel that if we don’t live a certain life style or drive a fancy car that we are not living a purposeful life. We fall into the trap of focusing on others blessings and ignoring our own. From personal experience I have done this. I have looked at the blessing of others, and wondered why my blessings were not the same.…
