In an article titled “Newtown Open eyes to other gun violence against young people” Sarah Hoye explores how every day gun violence effects inner cities like Philadelphia on a daily basis. “Scott Charles walks briskly across a hospital lobby toward a group of high school students waiting to meet him. "Welcome," he said, panning their faces, "I work with gunshot patients. How many of you know somebody who's been shot?" Hands spring up into…

In the United States today, gun control has become a very big issue in the lives of its citizens. People arguing with each other over whether it is our constitutional right to be able to obtain and bear any kind of arms that we choose or that it only belongs to the militia. Many arguments come up over whether or not just average people can show up at a gun show and sell a gun to any person without giving them a background check first. Not only do they want back ground checks they want restrictions, and bans. Should there be bans on certain kinds of weapons? If so what kind of weapons? Should any person be able to buy a gun anytime or any place? Are people getting the right picture on what guns do for the country or are they getting deprived of information? It was shown that, "Out of 300 evening news segments, anti-gun stories outnumbered pro-gun stories by 164 to 20" (Dickens 1). This is an outstanding number that shows that the media plays a huge role in what people think about the issue of gun control. If all they see is guns involved with murders, and not involved with self-defense; how much longer will we have our guns? All of these things are factoring in to the issue of gun control and how important it is to some people and hated by others. In this paper I will lay out different views, arguments, and issues that could affect gun collectors, hunters, and the every day citizen for years to come…

    Concealed Weapons

He lives in Wisconsin where it is legal to have the concealed firearm. He says he always feels more safe for not only himself, but for the people around him who he can potentially save. There was an incident about fifteen years ago when he was walking into town when an outsider, not a town usual, drove into a local diner. He attempted to rob the diner since it generates a pretty steady income. My Grandfather and his former Chicago policeman partner jumped into action and held the gun up to him. They didn’t need to shoot him because generally most people don’t want to be shot and killed. The man was then arrested and taken away. My grandfather saved the Cubby Bear Lodge their day’s earnings and possibly the waitress’s life. A similar situation occurred at the Ohio State University in Columbus. In The New American, an article was written about the encountering. Two students were involved in this situation. One of the students, Joe Smith, is now the campus president for concealed weapons. A belligerent man approached the Smith’s wife. He threatened to kill them when Smith drew his gun. He didn’t even need to shoot. When the aggressor saw he was armed he fled the scene immediately. Smith talks about the situation, “When he was about fifteen feet away, I drew my handgun. … I was prepared to shoot, but didn’t have to.” (Smith). This shows another incident of having a concealed weapon can save lives. It is a protection option, which is only meant to protect. When the gun is in the right hands this law is very effective. This is why people are so passionate about this law because they can see the results in regular everyday…
