Jamaica Short Story
JORGE
One night in Jamaica, a warm breeze rustled the trees, they seemed to whisper to him.
As night fell, he watched the sun set and tried to count the stars.
Jorge sat watching as the stars appeared in the sky.
He couldn’t count, so high and decided and closed his eyes.
Jorge leaned his head back into his palms and sighed. He was sprawled out on the cool grass. He patted his dog beside him.
It would soon be time for dinner and he must go in and help his grandmother prepare the family meal.
These were good times for Jorge. He had just turned ten that May and he felt like a big man. He was a proud child, small for his age with coarse thick bushy hair. He had a beautiful bronze complexion that his grandmother was adamant about keeping

He found him very helpful when they bought their house. Her father helped them through multiple renovations. He seemed to know about everything and Jorge admired him for this.
A year after Annalise and Jorge’s wedding Annalise came to him and told him she had something to tell him. She was very solemn and told him to sit in the living room, she turned off the light and sat on the floor in front of the sofa chair. She told him that her dad wanted to be a woman and she had found out about this when she was a kid. He wanted to know why she didn’t tell him before. She replied that it wasn’t her secret to tell.
After the birth of their first born Jorge began to feel bored with work. He had accomplished as much as he could and no longer felt fulfilled by the work he did. He had always liked helping people and often dreamed of being a police officer.
One morning at 3am Annalise was awake and felt that there was someone outside the house. Suddenly, there was a banging at the front door. Jorge and she went upstairs and peeked outside through the curtains. It was the police. Jorge opened the door, the policeman showed them a mans ID and asked if that man lived there. It turned out to be the next door neighbor who was drunk, so drunk that he didn’t know where he lived. They had brought him home to the wrong house! The metal door had been dented and Annalise was angry. Annalise and Jorge went to the police station to complain about the

One day Ravin sang her heart out sitting cross-legged on the living room floor, her sister, standing up and supporting herself by holding onto the sofa. Jalina made her way around to where Ravin sat. Almost a year old now, she was getting ready to walk. When she almost reached Ravin she let herself drop onto the floor with a thud and crawled over to Ravin. She looked at her sister singing and leaned over as if to kiss her sister's knee, only she bit it instead! Ravin let out a yelp! “Sissy!” she exclaimed. Jalina

While lying on the grass in the front yard, I imagined the exciting night ahead. Before long, Taylor and his girlfriend, Kara, arrived and picked me up. Almost immediately, I stood up and sauntered in my Duke sweatshirt and basketball shorts over to their car. I jumped into the backseat. Immediately, I was assaulted with the strong smell of perfume that had been sprayed inside the car because it belonged to Kara. Tonight instead of driving, she decided to let Taylor drive illegally without a license. As we drove off to Erik’s house, the rendezvous for tonight’s “Goatman” adventure, we saw a police officer had just pulled a car over. As we drove by, we breathe easier and relaxed because we didn’t see any more cops on the way.…

On the corner of Willow drive sat a small store with washed out blue walls and broken shutters. The sign creaking softly in the wind spelt the words "Darla's Humane Society". Inside, the lights flicked on followed by a series of yaps and howls. Darla Windspow hustled to the counter and set a large box on top of it. She removed her sopping coat and hung it on the rack. Then, she grabbed the clipboard that she had set on the box and reviewed what was on it. At the top was listed a name, age, and breed along with some other various information. As she read further, she saw that this particular puppy had been rescued from an abusive home who would torment the young dog just for amusement. The last note at the bottom surprised her a bit as it said…

Rodriguez faces a few tensions in his personal experience such as being a "scholarship boy" as oppose to a well rounded student and and his life at home compared to a more friendly home environment. Rodriguez says that "I was a very good student, I was a also a very bad student. I was a scholarship boy, a certain kind of scholarship boy. Always successful, I was always unconfident. Exhilarated by my progress. Sad. I became the prized student - anxious and eager to learn. Too eager, too anxious - an imitative and unoriginal pupil." ( Rodrigues #283 ) Rodriguez describes himself here as imitating his teachers too much and being a perfect student instead of thinking for himself and taking in the knowledge he is given by his teachers and analyzing it and putting it to use. He is unoriginal and and uninteresting compared to a student who can use their knowledge in their own way and gets more involved. The other tension Rodriguez faces his the tension he has with his family, mostly his mother and father. At home his mother and father both support and encourage what he is doing very much but they didn't like the fact that he would always be in his room and the fact that the only thing he was involved with was school. "He permits himself embarrassment at their lack of education." (Rodriguez #286) This quote shows that Rodriguez's amount of knowledge of the english language and other subjects he had compared to his parents and therefore he was somewhat embarrassed by them and it created a tough home environment to live in because he didn't communicate much with his parents. This contrasts the home environment where their is a strong relationship between the family and their is communication.…
