“I know, it’s like fifty degrees in the United States,” Anna replied. Anna was Isabelle’s closest friend in her class. They had been best friends since Kindergarten. They were in seventh grade at the time of the trip. They had grown up so much since the time passed.
Isabelle, Anna, and the rest of their class walked steadily through the neat path, which was dotted with small pebbles. Their teacher, Mrs. Hartwell, assigned them to observe animals in the forest. Whoever could find the most won the challenge. Isabelle …show more content…
There were dozens of turns. It was like solving a crossword puzzle. She didn’t know where or when to turn. As Isabelle became out of breath, and couldn’t run anymore, she collapsed on the dusty path. She began to cry. Her tears fell onto the sand that lay next to her head, creating a pattern that reminded her of her mother’s polka dot dress. Isabelle wanted to be with her mother, and hold her tight like it was the last time she’d see her. Maybe she wouldn’t see her mother again. Maybe she’d starve to death. “My class must be having lunch by now,” Isabelle thought to herself, “laughing and giggling, not even realizing that I am gone.” She wondered if Anna had even realized she’d gone missing, knowing she was so focused on her work. “She probably would have seen Isabelle following the deer if she hadn’t had her face stuck in that paper of hers,” she …show more content…

After a long rest, Isabelle woke up. It was much darker than it had been when she first fell asleep. It was about 6:00 at the moment. It then hit her, she needed shelter. “Animals must roam the forest at night, looking for prey,” she thought. Isabelle quickly got up, and walked down the path. Would she sleep in a tree? A cave? What would she have to eat? Would she have to scavenge a dead animal? So many questions sprung up in her head. She was scared.
After a while of searching for shelter, Isabelle found a bush. The inside of the bush was hollowed out. It was perfect for staying hidden, and sheltered. As Isabelle lay down in exhaustion, she looked up. There was a beautiful red pattern shining through the leaves of the japanese bush. It reminded her of the stain glass windows in the church she visited every Sunday. Her mother always loved those stained glass windows. She would stare at them during the whole 3 hours they were at church. Isabelle once made her mother a sculpture on Mother’s Day. It was made of popsicle sticks and tissue paper to represent the stained glass
