Search engines such as google are making our society’s IQ go down faster every year. An everyday human being relies on google to help them find simple answers that most people should already know. Nicholas Carr makes various points on how google or other programs are making people stupid. Carrs essay “Is Google Making Us Stupid” shows us how search engines are in fact making us dumb. Google makes things easier to get to, “Research that once required days in the stacks or periodical rooms of libraries can now be done in minutes” (Carr) ,all someone has to do is type in what they need to know read about it then forget all about the topic. People use to go to a library and look up in an encyclopedia or another informational book to find out what they need. Someone would have to sometimes look through a whole book to find what they need. Google makes it easier to find the information you need instead of looking for it for hours. Although google makes it easier to find the information a person needs, the person does not actually obtain the information. Carr makes a good point saying “My mind now expects to take in information the way the Net distributes it: in a swiftly moving stream of particles.” (Carr) it shows a person can read something but not actually learn it. Google is a good resource, but because of it we do not actually learn the information we need. Carr makes various good points on how google is dulling our minds.
