Informative speech on Kate Middleton
On January 9th, 1982, a baby girl was born to two former flight attendants. Little did they know their child would one day become part of the Royal family. From a commoner to Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton has lived an extraordinary life. Today, I will tell you a little bit about her extraordinary life. I have thoroughly researched many important aspects of Kate’s life, from her childhood to her life as royalty. Today, I will tell you about her early childhood, relationship with William, and current life as Duchess of Cambridge.

As I just mentioned I would like to tell you a little bit about Kate during her childhood years. Kate’s early childhood was quite different from the life that she lives today. Kate was born into an ordinary middle-class family and was the oldest of three children. Nicholas Kohler, in his article on Kate Middleton that appeared in Maclean’s on November 29th, 2010, tells us that Kate’s parent, Michael and Carole Middleton, met while working as flight attendants. In 1987, Carole Middleton launched a family business called Party Pieces when Kate was five years old. This successful business that sold children’s party gear made the Middleton family millionaires. The success of party pieces enables the Middleton’s to send their children to expensive boarding schools. Andrew Morton, in his book, William and Catherine: Their Story writes that Kate was bullied at Downs House, the all girls school she attended. According to the biography.com website, she continued to be bullied after she transferred to Marlborough College, where boys rated her a 2 out of 10 according to physical appearance. However, this did not hinder Kate from making excellent grades at school and continuing her education at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland, where she would later meet Prince William.

    Love and Hate in Jamestown

As a young child many of us are raised to be familiar with the Pocahontas and John Smith story. Whether it was in a Disney movie or at a school play that one first learned of Jamestown, students want to believe that this romantic relationship really did occur. As one ages, one becomes aware of the dichotomy between fact and fiction. This is brilliantly explained in David A. Price's, Love and Hate in Jamestown. Price describes a more robust account of events that really did take place in the poorly run, miserable, yet evolving settlement of Jamestown, Virginia; and engulfs and edifies the story marketed by Disney and others for young audiences. Price reveals countless facts from original documents about the history of Jamestown and other fledgling colonies, John Smith, and Smith's relationship with Pocahontas. He develops a more compelling read than does the typical high school text book and writes intriguingly which propels the reader, to continue on to the successive chapters in the early history of Virginia.…

On June 20, 1675, Metacomet, also known as Philip by the early American colonist, led a series of attacks on colonial settlements that lasted for more than a year. These attacks became known as “King Philips War.” It was a desperate attempt by the Natives to retain their land as their culture and resources dwindled before them. Mary Rowlandson, a famous victim of these Indian attacks, recounts her eleven-week captivity in her published book, A Narrative of the Captivity and Restoration of Mrs. Mary Rowlandson. The book describes her experience as a captive of the Wampanoags in great detail, and combines high adventure, heroism, and exemplary piety, which made it a popular piece in the seventeenth century. Throughout the narrative Mary Rowlandson portrays her skills as a writer with the delineation of her character.…

A Narrative of the Captivity and Restoration of Mrs. Mary Rowlandson, written by Mary Rowlandson, is about King Philip’s War. The war started on June 20 in 1675 and was between English colonists and Native Americans. During the war, the Indians attacked English colonists’ territory. They burned the colonists’ houses, killed the resisters and captured some of the colonists. The living of captives was very tough. They had to move from place to place with the Indians. The Indians treated them very badly. If they didn’t listen to the Indians, they would be beaten or even be killed. Besides, the weather was cold and sometimes the food supply was short. As a result, lots of captives died during the captivity. As a victim of the Indian attacks, Mary Rowlandson wrote a vivid description of the eleven weeks and five days she spent living with Native Americans which owns very high value in American Literature.…
