ABTRACT

Our aim was to study and analyse the Industrial Relations at Shrinivas (Gujarat) laboratories Pvt. Ltd. Our focal point was its West Bengal manufacturing plant and for this plant we have tried to explore how the management and the employees have been interacting in the organization. We have tried to find answers to a few questions in relation to Industrial Relations and related it with the theoretical understanding that we possess thereby applying our classroom learning while studying our chosen organization. We have made an attempt to find the impact of the various factors on the Industrial Relations setup in an organization in general and in our organisation in particular. This has lead to a greater insight in prevalent realities and how the dynamics of this relationship has matured over a period of time.

We would like to thank Prof. Pranabesh Ray for providing us with an opportunity to work on this project. This project has helped us to gain insights into how things happen in real time in an organization as far as industrial relations are concerned. This project has also helped us a great deal to relate to the reality the concepts taught in classroom. This was a very good exposure and opportunity to learn before we face the realities doing our future jobs. We would also like to thank all the employees, management and office bearers of the union for providing us with their valuable information and time. Their contribution in our study cannot be paralleled. Also we would like to acknowledge Ms Sapna Sugandha our ex-group member for providing us with the initial contacts.

    One of the most pressing issues facing most organizations today is the need to raise employee productivity. There is a widespread belief that productivity improvements can only be achieved through a fundamental reform in the area of employee relations. Changes are thought to be necessary both in the organization and structure of work and in the way in which employees are trained, remunerated and motivated.
