Now, we will never feel thirsty for freedom. We will never bleed and cry in frustration. For at last we are one sovereign state. As our late senator Noynoy Aquino had said, “Filipinos are really worth dying for.”
Our country’s independence is our greatest treasure. It symbolizes our ancestor’s heroic power and brave hearts. It shows the love we have had for our country, that we are always ready to splatter our own blood for the sake of our country’s independence. And that’s what makes us Filipinos stand out in all other races. We are one of a kind. Despite all the foreign influences all over our country, we still managed to preserve our nation’s culture throughout the years.
But as years passed, questions lingered in my mind: Do citizens who experienced this freedom give importance on what Independence Day really meant to those who sacrificed their lives? Do they know the real quintessence of this day? I doubt it. Yes! We do celebrate our independence every year. But we often celebrate this because it’s requisite, not because we honored its real essence whole-heartedly.
Fellow citizens, let’s all remember that without those heroes who fought for our freedom of independence with outmost pride and dignity, we will never be a sovereign state. We will never get a glimpse of our country’s real beauty inside and out. Our country’s Independence isn’t just a simple word that can be easily defined. It is a legacy, being passed from generation to generation, worth more than gold. Priceless, indeed. Our independence pictures out our citizen’s ingenuity and our nation’s patriotism.
