The theme of life of war is portrayed in the Realism stories, A Mystery of Heroism, An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge, and The Incidence in the Life of a Slave Girl . In these stories people go through some type of fight just to live. Each of these stories has a main character going through a life threatening scenario. These characters are at risk of losing their life so they can live on free. In Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge, The main character is to be hanged for the crime he had committed. When he gets dropped the rope breaks and he falls into the river. He manages to untie his hands and feet, swim away and not be shot, but in the end it was just a dream, in situational irony he dropped and just died. He imagined the whole thing. The author was trying to outline how life is a battle. When he dropped and swam up to the surface he looked at all the nature around him, the will to live came to him.
