Importance of Human Relations in Career Success

Your outlook upon life, your estimate of yourself, your estimate of your value is largely colored by your environment. Your whole career will be modified, shaped, molded by your surroundings, by the character of the people with whom you come in contact every day...
-Orison Swett Marden-

It is not what you know, but who you know… A successful career doesn’t just depend on on your ability to do your work competently and excellently but it also has something to do with having good relationship with the people you worked with. You will be working with these people 8 hours a day and 5 times a week which means you’ll be seeing them a lot. Knowing the people around you in the workplace will be a great help to you because along the way you will count on these people for support, assistance, direction, advice and favors. Having good relationship with people is important for success because these people will help support you from the ground and lift you to success. To build a good relationship it is important to know the different types of personalities that every single person has and to know how to deal with it. Dealing with these different types of personalities is not that easy. Possibilities are people may not like you, they will criticize you, will bring you down and may intimidate you and because of this your performance and productivity in the office will be affected. You can’t please everyone around and you can’t force them to like you and you can’t do anything to that and worse is you still need to work with them and to be able to do work with them. To be successful we need to learn that good relationship takes time to develop, to be acquainted with other person and for them to also know us and a time to build trust in each other. To have a good relationship with them doesn’t have to mean that you need to be the greatest friends but it’s about developing a happy working company with mutual benefit.

Less conflict results in the employees being able to concentrate on the tasks at hand and they are therefore more productive.” Paul O’ Brian, an expert in Business Development Management Roles, tells us his opinion on the importance of a friendly environment with employees who work well together. When a work environment is strong and friendly, chances are that employee relations are well and that makes it so it is a pleasant atmosphere for everyone. In turn, this brings about motivation for the employees and increases production significantly. O’ Brian backs this idea with, “Companies that have invested into employee relations programs have experienced increases in the productivity, and therefore the increased productivity leads to increases in profits for the business.” It seems companies have realized the significance of positive social identity of their employees. Communication is key when it comes to helping employees deal with their jobs and to avoid conflict and stress that may arise as a result of miscommunication or being…
