The importance of the balcony scene in Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare.
In Act II, scene II, "The Balcony Scene", Juliet is on the balcony in her room, daydreaming and talking about Romeo. As she is talking about him, Romeo overhears her. They begin talking of their love for each other. Juliet states the danger that they are both in for loving a member of their family's rival family. Romeo says that he does not care, though, and that his "...life were better ended by their hate, Than death prorogued, wanting of thy love."

To begin, Act II, scene II, is important in the play because it sets up their proposal for marriage. Both Romeo and Juliet find out that the person that they love is in love with them, too. This confirmation gives them the idea of marriage. Their love is so strong that their wedding is planned for the very next day. The plot begins to become complicated when they realize the danger in them being in love and especially in them getting married.

To continue, in the beginning of this scene Juliet is feeling lonely, thinking about Romeo. When Romeo arrives beneath the balcony she is on, she becomes excited that she is able to talk him, the one that she had been daydreaming about. Since Romeo already overheard her talking about him, she confesses to him how strongly she feels for him. At the end of this scene, she proposed marriage to him, and tells Romeo that she will send for him at 9 the next morning so they can go and get married.

Finally, without this scene, Romeo and Juliet would not have planned to be married the next day. Romeo might have still gone and fought Tybalt, so Mercutio and Tybalt both could have died still. After Romeo killed Tybalt, I don't think that Juliet would have still married Romeo. In the play, she accepts Romeo murdering Tybalt because of course she would pick her husband over her cousin. If Romeo had not been her husband and they had not even talked yet, I don't think Juliet would have still been interested in getting to know Romeo. Juliet would have probably ended up having to marry Paris, so unless she committed suicide from being married to him, I think Romeo and Juliet both would have lived a lot longer.

Lines 36-39 and 41-52 of Act 2; Scene 2, are significant to me because they have distinct levels of understanding and meaning to the play. Line 41 goes back to the original conflict that Romeo and Juliet are from feuding houses, the Capulets and the Montagues. It shows that Juliet does not want her family to fight the Montagues, and that she believes it is ridiculous because it is not the people they hate and fight it is their name, Montague. The section I chose reveals that the kids, Romeo and Juliet, feel that they can not have what they want because of the parents’ feuds. It makes you feel as helpless as they are, because you know that with their parents’ permission to get married, they would be happy.…

At the beginning of the play, Romeo gossips about how strong his love for Rosaline is. Romeo gushes, “One fairer than my love? The all-seeing sun / Ne’er saw her match since first the world begun” (I.3.99-100). Romeo is deeply in love with Rosaline at the beginning of the play, but that all changes when he meets Juliet. As soon as he sees Juliet, he says, “Did my heart love till now? Forswear it, sight, / For I ne’er saw true beauty till this night” (I.5.59-60). Romeo goes from being head-over-heels for Rosaline to being deeply in love with Juliet, all in just one night. Romeo is stunned by Juliet’s beauty and instantly makes the choice to pursue her. The first instance of this overpowering love occurs at meeting; Romeo and Juliet experience the cliché of “love at first sight.” Romeo goes to the Capulet’s supper in search of his love Rosaline, but suddenly after arriving he is distracted with the beauty of Juliet. He describes her beauty as “too good for words,” and that she is “too beautiful to die and buried.” He then begins to question if he ever even loved Rosaline because he has never seen true beauty before laying eyes on Juliet. Romeo goes to introduce himself to Juliet and greets her with a kiss. The two are unaware that they are the children of the others worst enemy, until the Nurse informs Romeo who Juliet’s father is. Another occasion where consuming love takes place is the night of their meeting when Romeo flies over the walls of the Capulet’s residence and stands below Juliet’s balcony. Juliet was oblivious that Romeo had been listening to her private thoughts when she hears him respond and questions who he is. She recognizes the sound of his voice and questions if him if he is Romeo, a Montague. Romeo replies “I am neither of those things if you dislike them.” During this time your family name was everything. By Romeo saying he will forsake his family for Juliet it shows just how much he truly loves Juliet even after such a short period of time. A final occurrence of this love is after Friar Lawrence secretly marries Romeo and Juliet. Tybalt, a Capulet and a cousin of Juliet’s is looking for Romeo and challenges him to a fight. Romeo admits that he has a reason to love Tybalt that puts aside his anger. Romeo tells Tybalt “Capulet- which is…

One of the characters, who may not have seemed a significant figure in the play, did have an important role in the tragic deaths of Romeo and Juliet. Mercutio, forced Romeo into going to the Capulet’s party, there, Romeo met Juliet, and fell in love with her. If Romeo had not been forced to go to the party, he would have never met Juliet therefore, he would have never feel in love with her and it would have never ended in such a tragic way(Infinitive). Also, Mercutio played a role in Romeo and Juliet’s death, because Mercutio fights with Tybalt and dies. Then, Tybalt dies as a result of Romeo killing him, which causes Romeo to be banished from Verona. As soon as Romeo is banished from Verona, some plans go wrong which causes the death of Romeo and Juliet. Their deaths would not have occurred in such a tragic manner if Mercutio along with other minor characters were not involved.…

The play is basically set off of conflict. When there is love there is war.Conflict is the key role in Romeo and Juliet. There are conflicts starting from the beginning to end.The conflicts include: Man vs.man, Man vs. self, and Man vs. society. Both of the families are in conflict, and have been since they can remember (Man vs. man).In fact the first scene in the play is a brawl between the Montigue and Capulet servants. Romeo is in love with Roseline, but Roseline wants nothing to do with him. Romeo then falls into a deep depression, that is one of the first conflicts ( man vs. self ). Then his cousin invites Romeo to a masque. This leads into more conflict considering that the masque is held at Lord Capulet's house. Taking into account the feuds that the Montigues and Capulets are having this is not a wise choice for Romeo. Since Romeo is in love with Roseline, he will basically risk everything to go to the masque. The next conflict that occurs in the play is Tybalt a Capulet recognizes Romeo's. Tybalt then wants to fight Romeo, but Lord Capulet won't have any fighting in his household.…

Romeo has a habit of falling in and out of love, he tends to have a lack of commitment to one person and exaggerate his feelings and impulses. When Romeo went to the Capulet's party and saw Juliet for the first time he immediately forgot about Rosaline and fell in love with Juliet as he stated, "Did my heart love till now? Forswear it sight! For I ne'er saw true beauty till this night (1.5.59-61). He questioned himself if he had ever loved anyone before that night, and if so, then his eyes must have lied, because he had never seen anyone before that night. Earlier that same day Romeo had been sobbing over Rosaline and soon as he saw Juliet he had completely forgotten about his last love. This depicts Romeo's habit and character of falling in and out of love and having little commitment to one person since his depression over Rosaline was quickly shattered when he saw Juliet. Another part of Romeo's character is that he is illogical and decides too much on instinct instead of sense as he took vengeance on Tybalt for killing Mercutio , "Now, Tybalt, take the villain back again that lay thou gavest me, for Mercutio's soul is but a little way above or heads, staying for thine to keep him company. Either thou or I or both must go with him. Although Romeo's friend Mercutio was slain by Tybalt, it was no reason for Romeo to justify his reason for killing him out of vengeance. Thus, proving that Romeo killed Tybalt through his spontaneous character and not reason, Romeo's act jus further magnified his tendency to make irrational decisions and exaggerate his reactions and not thinking about the consequences. During the end of the play, in Act 5, scenes 1 -2 Balthasar thought Juliet was dead and informed Romeo. Without stopping to…
