If You Have a Time Machine, Will You Choose to Travel Back to the Past or to the Future and to Which Moment You Want to Be and What Will You Do?
“Run into a store, ask what year it is. When someone answer, yell “It worked!” and run out cheering”. This is a popular joke about time machine I’ve read in a funny website. It can’t be denied that for people who enjoy imagining crazy things like me, the idea of “being capable of travel purposefully and selectively through time” sounds exceedingly marvelous and tempting. I’m so excited at the prospect of being able to travel through time that I find myself wondering hazily whether I should go back to the past or to the future. After considering pros and cons, I’ve decided that it’d be considerably risky to know too much about my future, as if I do, my contemporary life might change forever. Thus, if I have a choice, I will be glad to experience my childhood once again.
I want to go back to the early of 21st century, when I reached the age of 6 and began to go to primary school. Like for many people, for me my childhood is one of the most precious things in my life. Whenever something reminds me of my childhood, I find myself lost in beautiful memories. It’s not because I want to change something in the past or to make up for my fault that I choose to travel back. All I want is to experience it one more time, to go back to the time that is meant the most to me.
It was in 2003 that I wrote my first letter and was able to write my name properly. It was then that I was taught to read my favourite book “Grimm’s Fairy Tales” without my mom’s help. When I was in the first grade, my most noteworthy day was not the first day I went to school, but the day I was called to read out loud an article and I couldn’t do it fluently and was being laughed at. That experience literally changed my life, since which I realized that I must study hard to catch up with the rest of the class. It’s not only the feeling of being able to read and write that makes me aspire to go back to my childhood, there are also countless other memorable things: Kid’s games such as blind man’s buff, cat & mouse’s game, dragon snake…; old food like candy, multi-flavoured yoghurt; anime series… It’s fun to look back and realize how easy life was when you were a carefree, curious, convivial kid. Perhaps nothing in this world could cause as great depression as missing a cartoon episode. Life was nothing but fun and laugh.
People have done researchs on age potion, which makes you immortal and young forever. I want to stay young, too, for the same reason. Being innocent, carefree, blissful all the time is undeniably worth craving for. Thus, I’d like to use the time machine to go back to my childhood, breath the “childish” air again and make the most of it.

Like any formal writing, the beginning is equally important as the end. In order to appreciate the present, the past needs to be understood. Knowing the journey of where I grew up from the beginning to present day is amazing. It’s hard to believe there was a time in my hometown, Iron Mountain, Michigan, where electricity didn’t exist nor did the everyday tools we now take for granted. I often wonder what the city looked like to my grandparents and their family before them.…

On a spring day in 2011, what do you think of? Is it the flowers you planted or is it the birds as they chirped and created a melody? For me? It was a friday night. Now, you may ask, a friday night? What is so special about that? That night was one of the first times my heart set sail as my feet, one by one, stepped onto the softball field in Hallstead, Pennsylvania. I was in sixth grade, you know that grade that you start switching classes, being held more responsible, and were expected to be independent. Me? I was out to…

When most people think about a significant experience as something like; studying abroad, taking vacations, or meeting new people. Now while I have met many types of people and traveled quite a bit, none of these experiences have been nearly as significant to me as my childhood. I lived in a small, falling apart, purple house in the heart of Bessemer that was perfect because it is all we could afford. This house and neighborhood forced me to be resourceful and it taught me that nothing in my life is going to come without hard work. Those lessons crafted me into the industrious, diligent, and determined person that I am today.…

It is amazing to me to see how much I have accomplished since second grade. I feel as if the little girl who walked throughout the halls of Spanish Immersion, the girl who had little faith in herself to succeed, had changed into a mature, hard working young lady. In second grade I was partly depressed. I had felt as if life had no meaning. I struggled in school, and did not appreciate what was being taught. My mom suggested that I may have had dyslexia, but we were not certain that was the reason. It turns out, she was correct.…

With no doubt, time goes by faster than realized. Throughout a lifetime several things may happen to make us want to make time stand still. In today's time majority of people take their life and time on Earth for granted. Although it is not possible to make an event last forever, if I had the choice to go back to a certain time/event I would go back to the summer of 2012. In June of 2012 I started my summer off in Philadelphia. From Philadelphia I then traveled to Disney World in Florida. But why was this time so important to me? Firstly, this summer was not all about fun. Of course, I had a great time, but it was about the family I spent it with. Secondly, Disney World is such a happy place to be. Above all, this was time I knew I would never get back: although, with the choice to go back I would.…

All I ever wanted to do was to see where I came from. I have spent my entire life working on a time machine to send me to 1919 and back. The time machine was modeled after a car with rockets. How you get the car able to time travel is you have to get the car going 100 miles per hour, then you push a button, and then where you want to go. When it was time to test it out I brought it to the highway and got it going 100 miles per hour, pushed the button, and thought where and when I wanted to go, it didn't work. I brought it back to the garage where I was working on it and figured out that I didn't connect the button. I brought the car back to the highway got it going 100 miles per hour, pushed the button, and thought where and when I wanted to…

Time travel is something that people rarely think about. Going back to a time in history is exciting; I would love to bounce around throughout history and see what life was really like. I am proud to be chosen by the agency to for the opportunity to visit a period in history. My mother has always says, “if you don’t know your history, you won’t know where you are going”. I did not have to think long and hard about the period I want to visit. I would like to visit is the 1960’s in the midst of the Civil Rights Movement. Even though this movement is not greatly discussed in the history books, it does have great significance.…

Unless writing had been for crafting a proposal or a homework assignment, I have been able to nearly avoid writing for virtually a lifetime. Recently, near the end of September, I had one of those milestone birthdays. It is said, as birthdays go, it is better to have low expectations so one is not disappointed in the outcome – how true that rang this year. Apparently, my family had heard of this saying regarding birthdays as well, seemingly unaware of the passing milestone. As the evening came to a close, I found myself at my computer writing. Yes, writing - that was not a typo, I was merely writing for the cathartic effects of putting feelings, thoughts, and reflections into written words. By no means was this exercise a rough draft of an award winning piece, but a reflection of my 5th birthday and the excitement that I felt as a boy for the wonderment of what life would bring me next year as I was about to enter kindergarten. In reality, not much has changed for me; regardless of the bumps and bruises along the way, I still look forward with anticipation as to how the future will unfold before…
