2. What key principles did you see in the assignment?
The key principals I saw in Idols of the Heart, was the idea that we are all worshipers of something. We were created to worship God, but in our fallen state we have misplaced worship. Anything that we worship that is not God is an Idol. Idols are just not physical things, but anything that we give our passion, devotion, and love to. But these idols will give dissatisfaction instead of sustenance. We desire completion and fulfillment of certain things that can be only found in God, but instead, we look in all the wrong places. The Holy Spirit will aid us as we pursue Christ me and become more like him. Left to ourselves we have a strong influence to sin even though we are saved—this reflects our deepest thoughts and desires. We are free from sin, but we will always feel a desire to follow the flesh. Sometimes we develop sinful habits and we fall into patterns of sin. But the word of God will transform us, God will purify our desires, and with his help, we can defeat our idols. Idols of the Heart reminded me of how I need to be longing for God like Hannah longed for a child. I want to long for God and to be like him like David longed. This should be a large desire for my life, and it’s not. As a reflection of this, though I am consistent, I sometimes will not prioritize my Bible time and prayer time. I do not long to be with God and I instead want to fill my time with other things. If I really dwelled and studied on the glory of Christ more, I would realize how more awesome he is and then desire to dwell on him
