I M Not Playing Football
Every weekend I play soccer and now it has just become a routine. One the car ride Before each game my mom asks if I had any goals for the game and simply tell her that I want to score. She responds the same way every time, she says just work hard that's all I care about. After 5 soccer seasons, I realize that simple statement is a great foundation to life. I believe that hard work holds up the foundation of the world.
This year I decided not to play football, not because I hate it but, because I wanted to focus on other sports like basketball. It started out with me making the decision to work really hard and dedicate the time I wasn't playing football to basketball. At school, people thought that I was crazy to stop playing football because

When I was in grade school I would come home from football practice and have my dad time me running sprints in the alley behind our house. I knew that more repetitions and better technique would make me faster. Playing soccer since the age of 5 has been my passion. However, along with playing came injuries. I suffered a concussion playing U12 soccer, and still…

When I was ten years old I tried out for my local travel soccer team. I did not expect to make it, but by some stroke of luck I did. I started playing and it was not what I was expecting. In the past I averaged a hat trick every game, but travel soccer was a lot different. I started playing defense, but that might be an overstatement, because I did not get a whole lot of minutes. I knew that if I wanted to play more I was going to have to put in more work outside of practice. I started practicing everyday switching from running, to foot skills, to agility training. I probably spent more time complaining about it and there were a few time that my parents had to push me to practice, but I knew that I had to put in the work.…

Of course I ended up playing those sports, but I wasn't happy because I wanted to play football and nothing else. The years went by and I still did not play a snap of football and it was already the fifth grade where most kids have already played for years. Finally on my last plea my parents let me play football in the sixth grade. I played football in a youth league called PAFA (Palatine Amatuer Football Association), This is where I was taught proper technique and how to play the game safe. Finally, I was done with youth football, next up the big stage, high school football. My Freshman year went by in a blink of an eye, then came sophomore year my time to shine, and one of my favorite times in life.…

The dispassion I had towards Baseball was taking notice by my dad. He said, “You don’t like baseball don’t you…” I sadly accepted it and I felt the response would let him down. To my surprise, my dad responded by saying, “You don’t have to play baseball if you don’t want to. You can do whatever makes you happy.” Soon after conceding to not liking baseball, I went straight back to my favorite sport, soccer. Immediately, I felt much happier attending each practice and this gave me the drive to develop as a better player. Little did I know that my dad’s advice would still motivate me to this…

I made my own decision that I would continue to play football, after I got done with recovery. Probably asking in your mind,”Well why do you have to go to rehab?’’ Good question, It was my first game back from my first mishap, where I dislocated my shoulder. I had been playing a little that night, but not a whole lot because it was my first game back and I didn't know much about the position I was playing. It was kickoff, and I was on the very end of the field, in my position ready to make the tackle, bound and determined i was gonna make it. I made the tackle, but it didn't go the way i had planned it to go. Instead of making the tackle and standing up and cheering with the team, I made the tackle and laid on the ground in so much pain i thought…

By being told to quit something just because I’m not good at it. Back in my 7th grade year when I played football, I was pretty atrocious at everything basically. Trying to run routes against corners, catching, and trying to stay at 110%. I used to play Wide Receiver but they made me change positions because I didn’t try hard enough. They moved me to o-line and I was probably one of the worst players on the team. I only started one game my middle school life as a guard and all I really did was get embarrassed. Missing blocks, not pulling to get the DE, and forgetting the snap count. I didn't play football my 8th grade and my freshman year because my parents said that allergy season was gonna be awful. I was so close to not playing this year,…

I could not agree with this more. There is nothing most significant to me than developing a strong work ethic to help achieve my goals in a classroom or a soccer field while also applying it in my everyday life. I strongly believe that all my hard work will soon pay off in a form of a college degree, high paying job, or even becoming a professional soccer player and there isn’t anything that can stop me from achieving those goal if I do my best and stay focus. First off, I became the first member from my family to attend college while getting the chance to play soccer. When I graduated from high school, I realize I wanted a better life for my family since my parents came to the U.S. from an extremely poor part of Mexico and my life transformation would begin by attending college. Being successful in college became a huge responsibility because I made a huge commitment to my parents. I did my best to manage going to all my classes, play soccer and still somehow found energy to work on the weekends. I remember having to train extra after soccer practice and doing all my homework in the bus rides to our soccer games while still finishing my sophomore year with a 3.5 GPA. In my last year in Spartanburg Methodist College, I was able to graduate with an associate degree in business and manage to have a successful soccer year by receiving an All-American honor and getting a scholarship to Coastal Carolina.…

I had been a football fan all my life as a teenager going into high school. I never had the balls to play though. This all changed during the end of my sophomore year of high school when I decided I would sign up to join the football team for the upcoming season. I understood the game, the lingo, and how to play. I had just never played organized football before. I was nervous, having really no experience whatsoever. After my first few practices, my coaches told me I had large amounts of potential and that I should take advantage of it and work my butt off. That’s what I did.…

Starting soccer when I was only five years old was challenging because of my October birthday I had to play with all the six year olds. My parents had put me in soccer because I was a young boy filled with too much energy. After playing soccer for about a year I decided I wanted to do more, I loved the sport. I started playing club soccer when I was 7 years old, playing for under the wing of Charley Amblo. This was a training team only, it was not till I was nine that I was started playing for a travel team. This was the beginning of where I learned my leadership, time management, and teamwork dynamics.…

My parents had me involved in many basketball camps and programs. The sport is like a stress reliever for me also, when I am overwhelmed about something I just take it all out on the court. Soccer and school work are so much alike, in my perspective. Only because there are a lot of obstacles that need to be faced to reach success. For example in order to get to the opponent’s goal, I have to go through many defenders. It’s like trying to finish a paper or a project and get through all the distractions that come my way. “Keep going”, “Don’t give up”, “Don’t let anyone stop you or get in the way of what you want” is what I tell myself during a game and when I’m in school.…
