Course Project Deliverable for Week Four on Hydraulic Fracturing The Pennsylvania Act 13 of 2012 is an act that imposed stronger environmental standards and authorized local governments to adopt impact fees, and build upon the state’s efforts to move towards energy independence as unconventional gas development (hydraulic fracturing) continues. Some of the act’s provisions include increased setback requirements for hydraulic fracturing; enhancing the protection of water supplies; and strong, uniform, and consistent statewide environmental standards. The difference between the Pennsylvania Act 13 of 2012 and Vermont’s May 2012 (H-464) Legislation is that Vermont’s all out bans the practice of hydraulic fracturing as a means of producing natural gas. The Pennsylvania act just imposes restrictions to help ensure both environmental protections as well as to protect the drinking water near any well sites, or disposal sites.
