Hunger Games Book Report
The Hunger Games” Book Review

“The Hunger Games” is a the first book in a fantastic series of three books written by Suzanne Collins. It takes you into the life of a scared but quick-thinking, brave girl named Katniss Everdeen who learns how to survive on her own from a very young age when her father died in a mining accident. From that day on, she took care of her little family (mother and little sister, Prim) as well as herself by hunting in the woods of District 12 everyday with her guy friend Gale (who might have a thing for her but no one really knows). District 12 was one of the twelve districts that made up the country of Panem. Panem was once the continent of North America. When an epidemic swept through the continent of North America, Panem was formed and, the people who lived under the rules set by the capitol did not like it. They rebelled against the capitol and lost. Now, every year, children's names, ages 12 through 18, are put into a bowl and drawn out during a ceremony known as “The Reaping.” This is a dreaded time and no one wants to be a part of it because they know that if their names are drawn, it is almost like a death sentence. When a name is called, you are then taken and thrown into what is known as “The Hunger Games.”

Our narrator, main character, and hero also known as Katniss Everdeen, offered herself as a tribute in place of her younger sister Prim in an effort to save her life. When her and Peeta Mellark (the boy tribute from district 12) were taken off to the capitol, they went through some pretty intense training and in the end, well, you'll have to read the book to find out what happened but it was sort of an unexpected ending.

This book was so good because it kept you on your toes the whole time. I would rate it a solid 9.5. I gave it that high of a rating because, the unexpected seemed to happen a lot and things popped up all the time out of no where. The book also kept a good pace and there weren't to many dull moments;

    The Hunger Games is a novel written in 2008 by Suzanne Collins about a dystopian future of what was once known as North America, now known as "Panem". The totalitarian nation of Panem is divided between 12 districts and the Capitol. Each year two young representatives from each district are selected by lottery to participate in The Hunger Games; Part entertainment, part brutal retribution for a past rebellion. The Capitol selects a boy and a girl between the ages of 12 and 18 from each of the twelve outlying districts to compete in the annual games, a televised fight-to-the-death. The novel is centered on Katniss Everdeen — a 16-year-old girl from District 12, who volunteers for her 12-year-old sister, Prim Everdeen, when Prim's name is chosen — and her male counterpart Peeta Mellark whom she has some rather dramatic history with. They are pitted against one another and bigger, stronger representatives, some of whom have trained for this their whole lives.…

    Mockingjay continues right where Catching Fire left off. Katniss is extracted from the Quartell Quell along with others who were also in the Quarter Quell. One person who was not there was Peeta. Peeta is still missing, and Katniss is going to save him. Peeta sends the rebels a coded message warning them that the Capitol will attack them. The Capitol finds out, and responds to this by torturing Peeta. The Capitol continues the bombing of District 13 just as Peeta predicted. The Capitol begins to brainwash Peeta, and makes Peeta believe that Katniss is the enemy. Peeta tries to kill Katniss, but she escapes and heads back to District 2. Katniss tries to get back to the fight, and gets shot once again, and bonds with Victor while she is recovering from the wound. After Katniss is done recovering she tries to do whatever she can to get back into the fight. During the fight, Katniss is put into the same unit as Peeta. This worries Katniss, and Commander Boggs. Commander Boggs dies, but before he dies he gives Katniss the command of the unit. Katniss decides that she is going to go on a secret mission to assassinate President Snow. The unit decides to help Katniss, and only 3 survive on their way. Those 3 include Katniss, Gale, and Peeta. They end up getting separated and Prim dies. Katniss gets shot once again, but the rebels captured President Snow. Right before Katniss executes President Snow, President Coin says that the people who have survived should vote whether or not the Hunger Games should continue. Katniss votes for the Hunger Games, and the Hunger Games continues, allowing more innocent children to die. When time comes around for Snow’s Execution, Katniss has the choice to either Kill Snow, or to let him survive. When Katniss pulls out her bow, she quickly turns and shoots President Coin instead. Katniss starts to breakdown, and she learns that she is being sent to another District. Katniss eventually is able to grieve for the…
