Hugo: Misbehaving Knight
Once upon a time, there was an 11-year-old knight named Hugo. Hugo was a misbehaving knight. He fought dragons, went into dark, deep, forests alone, and trespassed into other people’s houses and stole from them. He was quite mischievous. The village people were scared of him, yes, scared of a little 11-year-old. But they had good reason to because he stole their things and trashed their houses. When they try to catch him, he’s gone in a blink of an eye and without a trace. Hugo had quite a reputation for himself. When he decided to steal a dragon from the castle zoo, the castle watchman spotted him. He was about to turn him in but chose not to when he saw how kind he was towards the dragons. The watchman was too in awe to notice that Hugo had …show more content…
LEARNED MY LESSON? How can I ‘learn’ anything when my mind's going a million miles an hour? You know what? It won’t matter because I won’t be here! I will find a way out! With Hugo holding back tears, he let the watchman drag him to the dungeon for his last night of being himself. The dank and dark dungeon was unwelcoming to Hugo. The rope had left red scratches on his raw skin. He rubbed his wrists and sat on the cold, wet floor of his cell. With nothing else to do, he tried to sleep but was consumed by his own thoughts. Restless and uncomfortable, he managed to calm down and close his eyes, drifting off in the process. Morning came fast, and the big day had arrived. Hugo was drowsy and emotional but got up anyways to be dragged to the potion lab. Any last thoughts he had of escaping were lost, for there was nothing he could do.
“Hugo! This is the wizard that will be giving you the reform potion. He has whipped it up for you, but first I need the armor you're wearing. You are no longer a knight. Here are some clothes to wear for the last few minutes before you get the potion.” the king’s words were hazy to Hugo. He gently took the clothes and went into the hallway and found a closet filled with fur coats and fancy hats to change into the beige clothes. He arrived back into the room and sat down in the chair where he would drink the reform

The central characters introduced in Italo Calvinos novella, The Nonexistent Knight, are curiously diverse, yet each readily identifiable as each are driven or defined by particular quirks. In Agilulf Emo Bertrandin of the Guildivern and of the Others of Corbentraz and Sura, Knight of Selimpia Citeriore and Fez we see order and willpower, in Raimbaut of Roussillon theres passion, in the periwinkle female knight Bradamante is desire and pride, in Torrismund a need to belong, and in Gurdiloo nothing, naught but empty thoughts being filled and then emptied on whim. I find, however, that our narrator (and proclaimed writer of this knightly tale), Sister Theodora, personifies a certain idea of her own, she is wishful thinking and the story she weaves…

The medieval knight began training at the age of eight, which was when he was sent to a nearby castle to become a page. Although the household would saddle him with considerable domestic duties, the boy was expected to master wrestling, horsemanship, and fighting with both spear and sword. A page-in-training practiced ceaselessly by attacking a dummy with a shield, which was hung on a wooden pole. when the page hit the shield with his weapon, the device could easily spin around and maim him unless he moved away quickly. Pages' also learned to read, write, sing, dancing, and behave properly in the king's court. At the age of fifteen or sixteen, the page advanced to the rank of squire. Then, it was his job to enquire about a specific knight's…

However, from the earliest days, armor almost always had more than one layer. The first layer would be a pair of loose breaches (see picture on next page) and a shirt. Over the breeches the knight would wear hose, which were like two separate tight-fitting trouser legs. Over his hose, a 12 th-century knight wore mail leggings, called chausses. Next, to cushion his armor, he would put on a padded coat called a gambeson. On top of this would be a tunic (kind of like a robe), which was very long and used as a mark of wealth and status. The knight’s armor consisted of chain mail-sheets of interlocking iron rings-mostly worn over some sort of quilted padding that absorbed the shock of a blow. As his main piece of armor, the chain mail shirt was called a hauberk, which usually had a chain mail hood called a coif. The hauberk was really weird because over this the knight would wear a short surcoat known as gipons, where it would really hard to wear in the summer because it would get very, very hot. The knight also had a helmet, called a bastinet, to protect his head, and a wooden shield. He was armed with a heavy sword that was used for cutting mainly, and not stabbing. Some were equipped with long lances, like those long sword like weapons that would be seen in tournaments where two knights would charge at each other while on horses. In the 14 th-century, the lower…

Feelings of foreboding flooded his senses as the hair on the back of his neck stood out. Someone had listened to his conversation, and was residing in the shadows of his room. How had he not sensed this before? “Whoever is here, step forward. Do so quickly or face my wrath.” A tall, muscular man stepped forward. A knight, he surmised, wearing jade colored armor with a coat of arms on his chest plate that he did not recognize, figures of two fighting dragons adorned his gauntlets, and in his hands, he threateningly…

The legend of Robin Hood has been around for nearly one thousand years. For the past several hundred years, Robin and his Merry Men have been known for stealing from the rich, particularly tax collectors, and giving to the poor; however, because this is still stealing and Robin had also killed at least one of the king’s deer, Robin and his men were known as outlaws. While they may have been outlaws, Robin Hood and his Merry Men were more like knights in the way that they dealt honorably with opponents in battle, defended the weak and helpless, and protected women and children.…
