How I Learned To Be Myself
Motivational Speech
Introduction:
“It is better to be hated for what you are than to be loved for what you are not?” --- Andre’ Gide, Autumn Leaves
• Thesis Statement:
This quote is important to me because it inspires me to be who I am and not what everyone else thinks I should be.

• Authority (Story):
I have always felt inferior to other people because they told me I was. They told me I was weird and that I would never amount to anything. I believed them. I thought that I could never do anything as good as anyone else. So I tried to act like other people in hopes that they would like me. That worked for a short time but I was miserable. I hated trying to be the way everybody else wanted me to be. Even though I knew I would be rejected by my peers I decided to just be myself whether other people liked it or not. I am as happy as it is possible to be.
• Summary:
I believe that you will have a much happier, fuller life if you make the choice to just be yourself despite how other people will react to you. It is hard at times but it pays off in the end.
• Important Answer:
I chose this quote to talk to you about today because I believe that everyone should be themselves. I really admire people like Tyler B., Kari Gamble, Stacia Shinn, and (surprisingly) Zach Smith because they are unafraid to say and do what they want to.

Body:
• Transition:
“I’m not going to apologize for being me. You should apologize for trying to get me to be anything other than that.” ---- Anonymous
• Main Points:
• If people try to get you to apologize for being you tell them they should be who they are and you will be who you are. Stay who you are. Don’t let anyone change you. Life is too short to be someone else. Live the way you want to live. Be who you want to be.
• Conclusion:
“It is better to be hated for what you are than to be loved for what you are not?” --- Andre’ Gide, Autumn

So my favorite quote is “I'm still figuring out who I am but at least I know that who I was is not me”. It means a lot to me because I have always pretended to fit in and tried to be like everyone else. That if I showed my true colors no one will love me or want to be friends with me. My self esteem went down because I wasn't…

The general thought among all people is that the only things that truly matter in life are “what we do”. In the end, the only people who are actually aware of “what we think”, or more importantly “what we believe”, is our ourselves. One’s beliefs and ideals may fade, but the only legacies that can never be erased is our deeds. Great men and women are never remembered for beliefs or thoughts, for “only consequence is what we do.”…

I chose the quote by Jesse Owens because it reflects the point in my life that I am at right now. I know that I have always wanted to do something that means a lot to me but I don't do anything about or know what it is for that matter. I feel like I wouldn't know where to start but then again I think that I know exactly how to start it just hasn't clicked inside my head just yet or I haven't gotten all of the details together.…

The second option is bit different because it changes the question. Live your life differently even if people judge you. In a perfect world everyone sees the beauty if the oddness found in everyone and finds the answers in our differences. In our current world, trying to learn more and more of acceptance and inclusion, it takes people who will push themselves out of their comfort zone in order to make a real difference. So again I tell you read the book everyone hates, watch the bad movie, wear the "goofy" outfit, sing even if you're off-key, and push the boundaries of what's acceptable. Speak up for those who need a voice and go out of your way to do good if you can do good regardless of the judgement you will receive. It takes a sort of bravery to go out into the world knowing that it will judge you. It's that bravery that has gifted us with amazing people that have caused amazing movements that have been responsible for the great strides in…
