Life as we knew it is a book about a girl named Miranda who lives in Pennsylvania with her older brother Matt, her younger brother Jonny, and her mother Laura. Things haven’t been the same around them anymore when suddenly an asteroid hits the moon and knocks it out of orbit. Closer to the Earth. This is causing there to be massive tidal waves and tsunamis that took out the power and the phone lines. Miranda's mother over reacts and stocks up on everything like canned foods and toiletries. As Miranda thinks it's getting better it just gets worse. It starts to snow earlier and her whole town comes down with the flu, her mother too. She goes to get a family/friend that is a doctor, but when she gets there they told her that he has died from the flu. After that her family's food supply starts to run low and she feels hopeless, so she tells her family she is going to see if her father has sent anything. But she was going to kill herself, but as she gets to town they were handing out bags of food for a person for each week. So someone got her four bags for her and her family and brought it back home. Her family was so happy because they haven’t had a big meal in weeks, so they celebrate by
Ways she tried to help this is she helped out her family by taking care of her mother and brothers when her mother had the flu and could not support herself. She also got food for her family when they started run out fast. Every day she just thought to herself that it's gonna get better little by little. A quote from the book (pg.213) states “I wonder if they imagined the future. I bet they never could have guessed what things would be like today.” What this means is Miranda and her family did not ever think this would happen in their lifetime. After all things start to get better, but very slow. Miranda was very happy that this was
