How To Solve The People Puzzle: Understanding Personality Patterns
DB Forum 1
Based upon the readings, behavioral blend appears to mean the blending of different personalities and temperance to form a unique blend. After personally assessing my behavioral blend based on my personality and through the guidance given by Carbonell in the text How to Solve the People Puzzle: Understanding Personality Patterns (2008), I found out that I have an S/C behavior blend. This means that I am both people-oriented and task-oriented, with my primary focus placed on individuals rather than crowds. This also means that my basic motivators include security and quality (Carbonell, 2008, p.p.’s 17 & 18). The C element in my behavior blend has positively affected my conversation through the fact that other people consider me to be more agreeable and

The chosen personality typing assessment for this assignment is the MOTIV personality theory. “The MOTIV personality theory is a refined hybrid of previous notions of personality…which posits that the entire spectrum of personality can be explained by five independent, alterable, and empirically provable personality motivations/strategies” (Similar Minds, 2012). These motivations/strategies also can be known as reward drives that have been evolutionarily hardwired and/or are environmental adaption styles to life. The five reward drives are Materialistic, Offbeat, Thinking, Intimate, and Vital, each of which are meant to provide the greater survival advantage. Materialistic means to be more externally perfect, Offbeat means to be more unconventional, Thinking means to be more logical, Intimate means to be more selfless and Vital means to be more alive or healthy. There is, of course, a counter preference to each of these drives. Respectively, they are Subjectivistic, Conventional, Emotional, Withholding, and Depressed. The MOTIV personality assessment gauges a person’s natural tendency towards either end of the spectrum for the reward drives.…

The term behavioral blend refers to an individual’s personality not as one singular aspect but a compilation of four different temperaments as stated by Carbonell. I found the lecture on behavioral blend to be extremely interesting as being a counselor is going to lead me to working with individuals that have a multitude of different personality types. The four types of temperament, per the Four Temperament Model of Human Behavior or the DISC Personality types are D-active/task oriented, I-active/people oriented, S- passive/people oriented, and K- passive/task oriented. By learning about the four different personality types according to Carbonell, I believe that I will be able to successfully counsel my future clients due to an understanding from each different sector.…
