How To Commitment To Core Values In Social Work Practice
So far, the process of completing my 70 days on placement , has looked like a marathon to me. Sometimes, I was pushed to my limits, being forced to test my ability to bounce back , to adapt to all the new situations and experiences to' bend with the wind' and 'to develop the emotional resilience to manage the challenges that I had to face'. (Laming ,2009).
Most of the learning experiences offered by my current placement constituted ideal opportunities to help me to demonstrate effective use of knowledge, skills and commitment to core values in social work practice. Even if some of them were initially with a low degree of difficulty, progressively with my O.S.S and P.E support , I have started to undertake different tasks with a different

Throughout the course we learned about different fields of social work, the complications that come with the job, and the different people you will encounter. We also learned how social workers work with these different populations (Morales, Sheafor, & Scott, 2010). During class we discussed a…

With this comes a heavy responsibility, not only the way a practitioner appears, how they dress or speak but also the way in which they conduct themselves fall into this category. Dressing appropriately to the agency that have enlisted the workers services, being aware of various bias or preconceived notions (often misconceptions) about a particular person or group and having the capacity to put these feelings and thoughts aside to help it crucial. Not only this but having the knowledge to effectively advocate for a client’s needs, understanding and abiding by professional boundaries, and making use of one’s peers, whether that be through supervision or consultation are key in this regard. That in mind, I can say that my core values and principles have shaped my approach to life. How I expressed myself as a pupil at school through respecting and working alongside fellow pupils…

The tasks completed during my BSW senior year field placement with the Department of Social Services varied. Conducting home visits with my supervisor while observing client behaviors in the foster home was a task I completed frequently. During these visits, my supervisor introduced me to clients and displayed how to properly conduct client in home assessment forms. These assessment forms would contain information pertaining to the client’s living conditions in their foster homes and would document the physical and psychological needs of the client to help them improve independent living skills; better preparing them for transition out of care. Also, I was allowed the opportunity to attend a school meeting discussing a client’s 504 behavioral plan. During this activity, it was discussed why the client was placed in the alternative school rather than being placed in regular school. After the meeting, the team concluded that the client was misplaced and that the client would developmentally progress within the school’s environment. This activity allowed me to see the importance of advocating for clients. This client’s worker did not accept the client being placed in alternative school and therefore did everything in her power to be placed back in regular school where the client best fit. Lastly, while interning at the Department of Social Services, I spent time updating Child Tracking Forms and Psychological Evaluation Reference lists; contacting different organizations exploring the services they provide clients who have experienced trauma. Completing this activity help me improve my ability to find local resources that will assist with advocating for clients. The activities completed while interning at the Department of Social Service has better prepared me for working with diverse populations within the community.…
