World War II saw the rise of new powers. The Axis powers were a group of nations that participated in WWII. Each nation in the Axis had been considered before that point to not be very dangerous, but became a huge problem during the war, as their full power was realized. However, these nations failed in their goal to conquer new land and spread their ideologies. In order to determine their failure, we must first analyze their successes. The Axis had many successes at the beginning of World War II. Victories such as the German invasion of Poland had given the Axis an early string of victories, which could have brought the Axis great success. Other victories from the Axis include France’s occupation by Germany, which was a huge land grab that could have given Germany enough momentum to simply outright win the war. However, the Axis began to lose traction in the war, and began to slip. Losses suffered began to weaken the alliance that had formed between the Axis Powers.
Hitler had hoped that he could sweep and end the war quickly, but the war became a stall war, with Germany and the Axis on the losing end. Hitler was almost correct, but his slight miscalculation meant that Germany would have to endure a longer war. After he could not take down Britain, he doubled down on the Russian front, where the infamous “Scorched Earth” tactic proved too much for Germany.
