Social media allows psychologists and researchers to see further into people. How they have changed over time, how their mind works now versus 2 years ago, etc. It is a much easier way to access peoples lives. In the next ten years social media will no doubt be very different from what it is today, however it will most likely still provide what it was originally intended for, to reach people both close and far away. This is what psychology will be impacted by at the core. With social media we can access people from all around the world, both patients and researchers alike. We can compare notes, conduct studies, and give therapy to people in a whole new way.
Questions that need answers will no longer be restricted by the individual conducting the research. They will have more than what is in their immediate area. They will no longer have rely on only their mind, nor the resources around them. Because with social media the amount of resources expands both mentally and physically. They will be able to go online and discuss with another psychologist what their thoughts are, what conclusions they have come too, and what new ideas have come to mind. Surveys can be completed, online interviews can be held, seminars, discussion boards, issues that want to solved. It can all be completed by going on social media and reaching out to the world. The more time the passes, the more questions are developed. And just when we think we have hit a major milestone, something comes along that grasps our attention, something that envelopes us for the years to come until it is solved. Social media will only intensify that urge for research, discovery, and development. With it we can find out what they want to know, gather our information, and then gather a conclusion. “Closer to people I’m far away from, but maybe farther from the people I’m close enough to” (Rose, 613) This short post perfectly sums up social media. Written by the author of the article, Josh Rose’s friend, he explains his feeling on the revolution of the internet. Josh Rose himself believes that the social media movement has brought forth positive changes. His examples not only include his friend who was able to reach people from far away but his son who is now able to have those daily mundane talks without having to see his father day to day. Rose also brings up information about a post he recently viewed on Facebook, the headline reading “In China, microblogs finding abducted kids” in which he states that their form of social media was able to save children as young as the age of six from their abductors. Rose explains that people fall into three…

First, the study relies on research data determined by the results of others. The explosion of social media has only emerged in recent decades so studies may be limited. Also, the effects of social media on psychosocial development will be most evident in children and adolescents since adults, depending on their age, have developed most of their cognitive processes and social behaviors prior to the age of social media. Because psychological disorders can’t be scientifically measured, most studies will rely on participants’ self-reports and observations of behavior and symptoms to draw research conclusions. Genetics, natural temperament age, race, gender and other factors, as well as life circumstances greatly influence the risk of a person developing depression, anxiety, and other psychological disorders, so results may vary. Conclusions must be drawn from reputable sources and take the variables of each study into…

These social networks have made it very easy for companies to stay in contact with fans and consumers and provide ways to get quick feedback from them. In an article entitled Facebook: the future of networking with customers written by Ray Poynter. Poynter states that “Facebook has attracted millions of ordinary people to social networking and claims to be offering new solutions to old problems.” The problems that Poynter is referring to are the ways companies collect research. For many years the pursuit of insight meant writing a research brief, appointing an agency which would then recruit a sample, conducting interviews and analysis, and after a period of time, presenting the distilled findings (Poynter, 2008). This is all now done much faster through Facebook. Facebook polling is a new way to find answers to simple questions. You can specify a sample size, pay a small fee, and have the results appear a few hours later (Poynter, 2008). Ray also states that although these are useful, they will not replace conventional research just yet. Facebook not only offers polling, but they also allow the public to create groups which the consumers can monitor and see what the public is looking for. An example of this in the text is when Cadbury…

Technology has changed all of us for the better or for the worse. Although our gadgets enable us to figure out what is going on in the Kardashian's life or what ridiculous tweet Donald Trump just tweeted, it is not a viable substitute, nothing is, for human interaction and conversation. Sherry Turkle has explored the disturbing future where all we need are A.I.'s to feel okay, to live. She explains that if we stop having face to face conversations our ability to feel empathy will be destroyed because texts and digital interaction can only convey so much. Texting erases all the tones and depth present in a face to face conversation and with the simple questions and even simpler responses they don't disclose anything anymore. Thus we've become…

In discussions of technology, one controversial issue has been whether social media brings people together or tears them apart. On one hand, social media argues that it has brought people together because it lets you talk to whoever you want whenever you want all around the world. On the other hand, social media brings us apart because it is not letting you talk to someone face to face, therefore they might be lying about who they are. Also, it makes common day relationships more stressful than they have to be. Others even maintain that social media is unnecessary . My own view is that social media is nothing but bad news.…
