When Oedipus addresses the people of Thebes as “my children” it proves that he is their father and above them (Line 1). He makes everyone else believe that he is a god when he tells them “your prayers will be granted if you hear my words obediently,” he makes them believe that he can grant their wishes, which only gods are able to grant wishes (Line 213-214).
