How Did URICRA Change My Life
URICRA has offered me countless opportunities that have helped me develop into the young man I am today. First off, playing URICRA baseball for three years were some of the most fun years of my life, but they also helped me develop as a player. Over that three year span, I developed as a leader, and those three teams all won over half of their games. URICRA also allowed me to get into umpiring, I now umpire almost thirty games a year. I have umpired for baseball, softball, and flag football, but I mainly umpire baseball games. URICRA helped me become the baseball player, the umpire, and the leader I am

As a child, I grew up carrying a baseball glove and a pearly white baseball wherever I went, hoping for the chance of finding a partner to play catch with. The game of baseball was never just a game for me; it was a lifestyle that I had fallen in love with. With that being said, the fundamentals of baseball had no immediate effect on me as a kid. However, as I have matured along with my love for baseball, I believe that the game my life has been centered around for nearly twelve years has shaped me into the person I am today.…

Hi, I’m Gabrielle. I’ve went downstate for a few things and one of the things I went down there for is softball. I really like to play softball. I have been playing since I was about 8 years old. When I started playing I became a pitcher. I wasn’t the best, but I kept practicing. I still pitch once in awhile, but it doesn’t interest me that much anymore. I prefer playing 1st base, 3rd base, or catcher. I got on the all star team the first year that I played. This year I got on the all star team and travel team. The all star team I played on won the district championship and we made it to states. We went all the way to Kalamazoo for the state championships. That was so much fun. I plan on playing softball for as long as I can. I also can’t wait till 9th grade so I can try out for the high school team! Another thing I’ve done is that I go down state with my friend Madyson sometimes. downstate for is going to Ann Arbor for a doctor’s appointment.…

Millions of people across the United States play sports and train everyday. Although sports are a glorious thing to watch, the people who play in them put in hours and hours of work to become that good, and sometimes the road to get there is not always easy. Two special stories of the path to greatness can be found in the Norton Field Guide. Marlen Esparza and Victor Cruz have very different stories, play different sports and have different backgrounds, but both ultimately go through hardships to become role models and achieve greatness.…

Ever since the first time I stepped on the field when I was in third grade lacrosse has been my life. I had been playing soccer since I was five, but my travel coach never put me in, and I came off the field crying countless times. My family agreed I shouldn’t play something with no passion, so I moved on. I signed up for the girls shark river third grade lacrosse team. Not only was the team incredibly inviting, but the coaches were so enthusiastic about new players. My first game they let me start, and now seven years later I have found my one true passion.…

I chose this topic because I thought that it was important to highlight the recent successes of the Latino baseball players to show how minority groups can prosper in America. Latino atheletes have gain notoriety and riches through the sport of baseball. These are things that they couldn't have dreamed about achieving without Major League baseball. Major League Baseball has given Latin Americans the opportunity to better their economic and social situation.…

My dad was in the United States Air Force for 20 years. I was born in England. After being there for a three years my father was stationed in Florida. While in Florida, I remember playing soccer as a child. The team I played for ended up and playing at the city championship game. I was only seven years old then. When I turned eight my father was again sent to Japan. While in Japan, I played baseball for two different teams. The one team I played for was for little league only when we played fellow American teams. The other team I played for we traveled all over Japan playing Japanese children. It was a lot of fun playing against other cultures and learning about them and their sportsmanship. The first time I played against them, I never saw a curve ball thrown before. Not only did I have to learn how to play baseball, but I also learned good…

Baseball comes to mind first because I have been playing baseball all my life. The road here started my senior year when spring baseball was picking up. I was somewhat of a talented athlete that was looking to play at the next level. I took the first step by contacting, Coach Knight of the baseball team. After coming into contact with him, he started to recruit me and my best friend name to come play here at Ecclesia College (EC). After the recruiting process was over Coach Knight…

Athletics has been an integral component of my entire life. While never being the most athletic or skilled, baseball was my passion growing up. The sport served as a garden for me to grow as a person, learn invaluable lessons, and gain friendships that will last a lifetime. After years of playing year-round, I was blessed to have the option of playing at a couple Small Division II schools or pursue a more academically rigorous degree at UVa. Ultimately, I chose the latter and it has been at the University of Virginia where CrossFit transformed from a supplementary regimen to my passion.…

Growing up I would have never imagined myself here. Long before I could consider medicine a possibility I had aspired to work alongside my father as a butcher. I was born in Merida, Mexico to a single mother. As the man of the house I began working at the age of seven cleaning windshields at stoplights and polishing shoes for any available change that people could spare. I came to America at age of twelve. My father had been anxiously waiting to meet me the day I arrived in Houston. My first challenge tested my capabilities at adapting to a foreign country without any family members to support me, other than my father who would spend most of the day at work, and learning a new language; however, I was oblivious to the real hardships and obstacles…

In baseball I learned more than just catching the ball and hitting it, players have to learn how to have athleticism. The feeling you get after sitting inside and then going to practice to stretch and play baseball is amazing. One way I use athleticism is for making diving plays in the outfield so I have to make sure I know how I can take a fast route to the ball. Another thing I learned is having to be able to stretch for plays like playing first base. Also, I have learned how I can gain arm strength for long throws from third to first or right field to…

As a freshman, I made the varsity volleyball team. With this position came a lot of responsibility and pressure. My teammates always looked at me as the “baby”, but they expected me to play at the same level as the seniors. I learned how to deal with difficult personalities and I learned how to commit myself to a team and a sport. I also learned that I was a role model to other teammates and young volleyball players. Just like the Pink Ranger, people looked up to me and I tried to lead by example throughout my volleyball career.…

During my senior season I slide into third base our first game of the year and jammed my shoulder. I had to go to the doctors and they said it was very inflamed and that I would have to sit out for most of the season. Being my last year in high school that news really brought me down. When I went to the next game I realized that I could not contribute on the field, but I could have a great influence on the players in and from the dugout. I cheered on my teammates at every game and during every inning until I could finally return to play at the end of the year. That experience taught me that no matter what happens there is always another way to positively impact someone, you just have to clear your mind and…
