How Did The Civil War Cause Any Sectional Antagonism
Before the Civil War, the Northern and Southern cultures were accepted. By the 19th century sectional antagonism began to slowly decrease from the disagreements and disputes leading up to the Civil War. This made the United States truly ‘one nation.’ Slavery being the main cause of the Union, began to influence a good outcome.
Some people thought the Civil War should not cause any sectional antagonism. From Lincoln saying “we are not enemies, but friends. Though passion may have strained it must not break our bonds of affection.” He believed there were never any enemies and there should be no enemies against anyone in the United States. Even though Lincoln did believe this way, the war still continued.

    In the beginning, Lincoln seemed to still think that the South was a part of the United States. But, although they were legally, they were not physically a part of the United States anymore.
