The purpose of this essay will be to explain the effects that Leonardo da Vinci and his inventions had on period of the renaissance, which was the period between the 15th and 16th centuries in Italy. It will also explore who he was, as well as what influenced him. The renaissance period is seen as a time when a large amount of change occurred both technologically and in religious aspects. Science was becoming more powerful, however many great scientists and the like did not dare to defy the Catholic Church because of the consequences that would occur, as the church was the “all powerful” at the time and had many supporters. Fortunately, Leonardo was one of those who dared to explore, and in doing so came up with many great ideas, created many things and uncovered many mysteries.

His inventions ranged from tanks, helicopters and the first machine guns to paintings, rope ladders and bridges. It is a disappointment that none of his sculptures and architectural projects were never completed fully, and of his hundreds of paintings, only a few were ever completed. Probably the most famous of these paintings, and possibly of all time, is the Mona Lisa, which is still intact today, and has a place in the Louvre, Paris.
