How Are Subsidies Used By Government
4). Explain how subsidies are used by governments and give an example.
Subsidies are used by governments for many different things. A subsidy is when the government gives a person or business money to help them. For example, the WIC program is a subsidy used by the government. The WIC program provides mothers with formula and other essentials for their babies. They will help provide for the children up until the age of five. This is a great help to low income mothers. Since formula is very expensive, not all mothers can afford it. This is a good program because it helps mothers provide for their babies. This also keeps many mothers from completely quitting their jobs completely and relying on the government.
There is also a lot of government money for single mothers trying to attend college. College is very expensive and by the government helping mothers pay for college, this gives them the chance to get a degree. Since many places will not hire you without a degree, this gives mothers the chance for them to get a

Food stamps are used to give food to people who cannot afford it. Although food stamps are used by people who do not need them, there are many families that do. Groceries are very expensive and by providing families with food stamps this allows them to get food for free and put their money toward other important things such as transportation, clothing, and their home or apartment.
There is also government money for first time home buyers. There are many different ways the government helps people and businesses. Overall, the government uses subsidies to help people buy things they need that they couldn’t afford on their own. Many people abuse and misuse these subsidies, but there are people that truly need the government's help to live and provide for their families. I think that it is good that the government helps people in need, but there needs to be a way to avoid helping people that don’t truly need

The federal government administered the food stamp program in an attempt to aid those with little to no income in acquiring food. The object of food stamps is to put food on the table for many families who don’t have the money to do it on their own by giving them monthly benefits. The use of food stamps is rapidly growing due to the growth rate of recipients in the program. Because of this growth, there is a visible spike in the funding for food stamps. This unnecessary funding for food stamps has increased the government spending to an all-time high. The assistance gained from food stamps is detrimental to our society.…

The government makes decisions that benefit them, yet are seen to “help” us. The truth is they don’t do anything that truly helps. John Stossel says “No, they can’t.” The government can, they just don’t. His video should say “no they don’t.” It is true though, the government fails to do what possibly any other person can succeed at. But what makes these other people capable of doing what is supposed to be the government’s job, is money.…

Many food stamp recipients may say it is their life and their money, and they may spend it how they want but in reality, it is not their money. The money used to feed their families and themselves are paid by hardworking Americans that pay taxes to make the country a better place, yet the money goes to people who buy Flaming Hot Cheetos and make frequent “CarneSazos” (Mexican cook out parties) every week. Many others may say people are obese, even if they do not have food stamps. Even though this statement may be true, the people that are obese, but do not use SNAP, can splurge and binge all they want on food because it is their hard earned money, even if it is unhealthy and not recommended of them to.…

The Pros And Cons Of EBT

The social policy that I want to talk about is food stamps known as EBT, because I find myself irritated with what I see basically everyday being a cashier at a grocery store. Now before I start talking about all my negatives I have to say with this program I do realize there are people who truly do need government help and support in some situations, and I believe in them receiving it. Right off the bat my biggest issue with EBT is it’s given out by the government with hardly any restrictions such as people are able to buy basically anything they want in a grocery store other than alcohol or tobacco. The fact that people can buy anything they want, when me and other middle class people wouldn’t even splurge on half the items they do, such as $15-$100 in steaks for one…

The Department of Public Welfare is available throughout the U.S. It is known as Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), (AFDC) Aid to Families with Dependent Children. When unemployed you might not be able to meet the needs of food, or money to buy clothes for interviews, or pay your bills. However welfare is able to provide you with cash assistance. This is where they can give you a certain amount of money that goes on a card and can be used for anything. Food Stamps or SNAP, is given when you can’t provide your family with a lot of food. This can be tricky because they have to know your annual income and have limits set that you have to meet and if you even go over a dollar you lose you benefits.…

The food stamp project was established in the 1930’s in response to the great depression. It was later terminated "since the conditions that brought the program into being--unmarketable food surpluses and widespread unemployment--no longer existed" (Short History, 2014). A food assistance program was reinstated by executive order based on a campaign promise from president Kennedy. Among the official purposes of the Food Stamp Act of 1964 were strengthening the agricultural economy and providing improved levels of nutrition among low-income households (Short History, 2014). A negative stigma developed towards individuals who participated in the food stamp program. To combat the stigma the title was changed to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program or (SNAP). The name of Food Stamp Act was also changed to the Food and Nutrition Act. Of the 10 million children currently receiving food assistance the average amount per meal is approximately 90 cents (Downs, Moore, & McFadden, 2009). The program is supposed to provide for a more nutritious diet; however, at the current rate most individuals on food assistance can only afford foods that are processed and that can contribute to obesity.…

Homeless have no way to prepare food, therefore this would enable them to have a hot meal. Elderly may not be able to prepare foods at home due to the disadvantages of their age. Disable people may not be able to reach the stove in order to prepare their meals. Because of limitations from their disability. The SNAP program helps low-income people buy the food they need for good health. State public assistance agencies run the program through their local offices. The amount of SNAP benefits you can get is based on the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Thrifty Food Plan, which is an estimate of how much it costs to buy food to prepare nutritious, low-cost meals for your household .The estimate is changed every year to keep up with food prices.…

California had a policy in place called the, “Maximum Family Grant Rule”, but it was recently repealed as the state felt it was doing more harm than good. This policy did not reduce the number of children being born to welfare recipients as they had hoped and California felt children were not getting the benefits they needed. If you are on welfare and make the decision to have another child, you should not be allowed to receive even more compensation for that child. Many women are using the system to justify having more children and see these programs as “free money.” Not to say that women are having more children because of this program but it’s not deterring them either. We need to stop throwing money at the problem and instill more programs to help people to be employed and learn how to live on their own. It goes back to the old saying that if you give a man a fish, he eats for a day, you teach him to fish and he eats for the rest of his life. The government feels like it’s doing its job by taking care of the children but it actually is putting children at a disadvantage later in life. “A study by Gordon Dahl looks at data from Norway's "disability insurance" (DI) system and finds that when a parent is allowed DI, their adult child's likelihood of participation over the next five years increases by 6%, and grows to 12% after ten…

Many people that are on government assistance have been taking advantage of the government system for some time now. Especially people who are EBT card recipients. These recipients are supposed to use the government’s assistance that comes from taxpayer’s money to purchase necessities. Yes, some EBT card recipients may not all be guilty of this abuse. Yet, for those people who are abusing the government system, they are making it harder for the people who truly need the benefits to gain access to receiving EBT cards. Tax payers are noticing that their money is going to waste. They see some EBT card recipients in take advantage, and see their money being wasted on people who do not necessarily need the government’s assistance. Since this is turning into a bigger as it goes on, the government should step up and take action by creating some kind of watch system over EBT card recipients spending.…

I think federal government should not get rid of entitlement programs. There are 21.3 percents citizens of this country who are receiving government assistance.
