I want to develop day time homeless shelter in Las Vegas because Las Vegas metro area has nation's fourth highest rate of homelessness. There are hundreds and thousands of homeless people live in tunnels to escape desert heat. Many people have misconceptions about homeless people that they chose to be homeless and they all use drugs and alcohol. I believe there are many homeless people who just need little of bit of support and motivation to get better and willing to change their life. Therefore my focus is to help everyone who is in need of help and support. I also believe there are many people who are willing to volunteer, sponsor and support homeless people.

Business Objective: Our non-profit homeless day shelter will provide housing, food, clothes and counseling and employment opportunity for up to one month. There will be volunteer or intern psychologist, therapist and counselors to provide important information which include life lessons, education and career guide and other essential skills to succeed in their life.

Operations: The place/building will be funded by local church, private contributions, residents, the city and/or other local corporations. This will be a tax-exempt non-profit organization supervised by the human service professionals and board coordination. There are three main emergency shelters with one out of the three dedicated as an emergency maternity shelter. All three are open 24/7 and each can accommodate up to twenty youths a night. As with most social services, the determining of financial and clinical eligibility is the deciding factor for these at-risk youth benefitting from the programs provided beyond emergency services. The services they provide after eligibility has been established are case management, physical and mental health services, chemical dependency services, legal assistance, school engagement, job readiness and assistance, and finding safe and stable housing.…

I attended a soup kitchen for the homeless at a Hospitality Center located at the Charles Town Presbyterian Church and also a fundraiser event to benefit the Jefferson County Homeless Coalition. At the soup kitchen, I helped volunteer’s setup tables and chairs for prospective patrons to dine. Guests had formed a line outside the doors of the church and waited patiently to be admitted. Once dining hours commenced, volunteers welcomed guests to be seated. Upon entering the building and finding a seat guests were waited on at their respective tables by volunteers and treated as any other patron who would dine in a restaurant. After the meal service concluded, guests departed and volunteers worked together to clean up the dining hall.…

In the 1640’s homelessness began to be an issue in the United States, and over time the homeless population continues to grow. During this time period not having a home was seen as god’s way of punishing the people. According to most religious folk as long as you didn’t disobey god your needs would always be met (Fischer). Youth homelessness first appeared in the 1850’s, the biggest reasoning for this is because parents could not afford to care for their young adults anymore. During the Industrial Revolution many people that moved to cities quickly became homeless, causing many people to turn to panhandling and prostitution. The Great Depression in the 1930’s was responsible for a large mass of people going homeless, due to a lack of income and available jobs in the market. Natural disasters such as the Great Chicago Fire and Hurricane Katrina can cause mass homelessness. Since houses have to be rebuilt and locals lose their money and possessions some are forced to be homeless for extended amounts of time. People born into poverty lack the confidence in improving their lives, so instead of getting an education and trying to better themselves, they continue with the only life they know, usually on the streets.…
