Homeless Community Analysis Paper

As a group, we challenged group bias by discussing the homeless research we had previously encountered. We had all came across viral internet videos of homeless people who were just in the business of loitering and collecting free money for drugs or other unhealthy activities. We became hesitant and unsure if we wanted to help the homeless community because of the negative stereotype. But, Chris brought up a very strong point he said “Well at the end of the day it doesn't matter because no human being deserves to be out in the cold without proper layering.We just will choose not give money instead give them resources that will make a difference in the long term”
We then brainstormed those items that are most crucial and hard to come by for the homeless.
Time was one of the biggest deciding factors because we are presenting first and also have two injured members that will be out due to surgery.This project seemed the most feasible because everyone has a sweater or extra piece of winter clothing to donate. The resources needed to complete this project were also more easily accessible compared to other more extensive projects mentioned above.

Another challenge we discussed was the obstacle of finding homeless people in the streets and what we would do with excess donations/clothing. We understand that we will not just find homeless individuals anywhere in the streets especially on cold days So we decided prior to coming out to hand our care packages we will note and create routes based on where we have seen homeless staying in the past. We will also have contacted a homeless shelter in order to donate any excess
