While some religions, like Christianity and Islam, may have defended war in time of defense, other such as Buddhism condemned war at all accounts, as well as the Daoism. I will now go through some different religious views on war.…
The birth of Islam started a fairly new religion and warfare was commonplace. So, the Holy Wars might help to explain the references in the Quran to fighting and warfare. For example, if someone were to threaten Islam and Allah’s teachings, then the Quran gives the authority to Muslims to fight in God’s cause. Fighting and warfare was common in this region during this time frame so it was important for the Quran to establish some guidelines for its followers.…
Although it is still open for debate, there are suggestions that chaplaincy, as a function in the military, can be traced in the Old Testament. Consider the battle of the Israelites and the Amalekites. The children of Israel experienced victory as long Moses held his hands up in Prayer to God. Another example that is discussed in the book deals with the Priests who carried the Ark of the Covenant in some of the battles the Israelites were engaged in. Gideon is also looked at as playing the roles of a prophet, priest, and general.…
In 1095, the Pope Urban II conveyed his unsettlement over the Holy land through a speech to which was delivered to his supporters. Through the inspiring speech Pope expressed his concerns over the Turks having control over Jerusalem and appealed to the desires of all Christians everywhere that supporting this movement would at the least earn them a place in heaven. Countless individuals set out on the journey to reclaim the Holy Land they believed belonged in the hands of Christians and were propelled by the idea that they’d be rewarded for their acts, thus beginning the famous chain of religious wars.…
Many Christians had taken the view that war may be justifiable under certain circumstances, and only if fought observing certain rules of conduct. Wars against the Muslim control of Jerusalem in the 11th-13th centuries were sometimes seen as holy wars which were popularly regarded as Crusades. Some philosophers based their justifications on the stories in the Bible. For example, St Paul in Romans 13:4 wrote that rulers are servants of God ‘…for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil’. In the 13th century, Thomas Aquinas gave an outline (the first three criteria of a just war) on the Justification of war and the kinds of acts that are allowed in a war in Summa Theologica. His ideas became the model of later scholars such as Franciso Suarez and Francisco de Vitoria.…
War, something the world has yet overcome. For years; life on earth have fought over religion, land, power and yet have reach a conclusion that can over come the obstacles each country has to face. Power, being the superior of something much greater than a small portion of the world is something that can overcome and peace. One can argue that the Thirty Years War was fought because of political issues, however the war was fought because of religious difference between countries of Europe. Causes of the war started because of religious matters, the Peace of Westphalia comes into place setting an example of overcoming the years of destruction , and the Resistance of Protestantism feuding with the Catholics, creating discrimination and almost…
“World War II and the Depression are now nearly as far back as we can go in living memory, and so the loom large in our active folk story. And many who lived then were too young to understand it in its depth; they remember only that the war was a great victory” (Adams 115).…

Sexual assault is a horrific crime. Sexual abuse can be verbal or physical. Sexual harassment can also be a form of sexual abuse. Many people believe sexual assault should be a crime severely punished. When one examines the stories of Kori Cioca, Michael Matthews, and Hannah Sewell he realizes sexual in the military should be severely punishable.…
Hebrew religion consisted of a single omnipotent god, Yahweh, while the Mesopotamians and Egyptians had multiple gods who each controlled their own section in nature. This means that the Hebrews only had to follow orders from one god, whereas Mesopotamians and Egyptians had to work hard to keep all of the gods happy. If what one god’s orders conflicted with another god’s orders, the people were forced to take sides, and unity would break. This could cause disputes amongst the two sides, and war could potentially break out. Alongside monotheism, the covenant also plays a major role in the structure of Hebrew religion. It is a pact that Abraham made with Yahweh, which both Yahweh and the Hebrew people had to follow. In exchange for land, a great nation, and guidance, the people had to worship Yahweh as their only god. This covenant keeps the Hebrews united, all following one god and one message, instead of listening to a whole pantheon of gods, all with different…
War: this word can change one’s life forever. Everyone is affected whether now or in days to come. No matter who you are you will experience the consequences of war. “But after the search for weapons, I had a different feeling about it: it was real and it had come home to me, too” (Collier and Collier 62). Even in the small town of Redding, people were being affected by the war. Why should Christians not be involved then? They will experience the…

The Witness to War: Serving a Nation oral history project focuses on telling veterans’ stories. Pairs of students interview a veteran, create a website for them, and present their veteran's story to their class. My partner, Kajsa Simon, and I interviewed Mr. Joe Souza, and through him, I learned a lot about the military as well as what makes a hero. From the Witness to War project, I learned that all veterans are heroes and that you don’t have to risk your life every day to be one. I also learned how to be a better public speaker, and this will be useful all throughout my life. This was the best project I have ever done, and it has made a lasting impact on my life. In this essay, I will discuss what I learned from this project, what I did to…
shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord (Rom…
