Holy Trinity Research Paper
The onset of Christianity required that a distinction be established between Christians and the various Pagan religions of the Greco-Roman era. The monumental task of explaining the important differences of Christianity was accompanied by detailing the extensive theological differences within The Church that were being established. Members of the Christian Church were charged with trying to explain with specificity how the Trinity was unified and distinct, as well as defining the relationship within the Holy Trinity. The most fundamental and primary concept of the Holy Trinity is unity, meaning one God. The Holy Trinity is comprised of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. When God reveals himself to Moses in The Bible, God calls himself, “I AM, He who is” or “I AM, who am”, meaning God is fullness of being and synonymous with existence. In God essence and existence are the same, and essence is to exist. The Father is a non contingent entity. It is in God’s nature to exist out of necessity. While God is present to all of time he exists outside of time. Time is the measure of motion according to before and after with potentiality. The Father is eternally the Father, the Son eternally the Son, and the Holy Spirit eternally the Holy Spirit. Actions of the Trinity come from the father, through The Son, and completed in the Holy Spirit. Jesus shares the same immutable nature of the Father and the Holy Spirit, the only difference is Jesus is begotten from the father. This is a relation only of origin not time. Jesus was incarnate in time to reveal God to man, save man, and call man back to God. The Holy Spirit is spirated from the father to bring the Gift of love, act as a counselor bears witness, and leads us back to God in our hearts.     When you think of God do you think of one divine entity or do you take into account the age old idea of the trinity? For all of time we have understood the three individual person’s in God, the Trinity, to be one in the same. The teaching of the Christian church tells us that God is three unique and separate people’s, but they are at the same time all one person in God. Now people have many different ways to picture or represent the idea of three people as one. The trial of history has come up with many different ideas and images to try and represent the trinity. The word economic is used from the Greek oikonomikos, which means relating to arrangement of activities. Each person has different roles within the Godhead and each has different roles in relationship to the world. One way of thinking about the economic Trinity is to think of the Father as creator, Son as redeemer, and Holy Spirit as sustainer.…
