When one views the life of the Apostle Paul in the New Testament it is evident that he had a heart to disciple others. The evidence at hand identified Paul as more than an individual who had doctrinal knowledge, for he was the quintessential model for living out the standards of Christian behavior. In his letter to the Church of Philippi Paul encourage them to “Whatever…

A Lay apostle is someone who has committed to God (through baptism and confirmation) and strives to deliver the divine message of salvation to others throughout the world. “The need for the apostolate is shown by the manifest action of the Holy Spirit moving laymen today to a deeper and deeper awareness of their responsibility and urging them on everywhere to the service of Christ and the Church.” (Jackson, 2010). Therefore the statement suggests that the Holy Spirit is the one to give us a deeper understanding of what we as Catholics must do to become a good lay apostle, and that our responsibilities are within the church and our beliefs in Christ. Nazzaro (2010) states “A Lay apostle walks closely with Jesus throughout each day… We serve Jesus through service to others.” In order to become a good lay apostle we must be close to the Lord daily whether saying prayers or attending church, and in order to serve him we must spread the word of God to everyone that would be interested in following Christ.…

A sacrament is a tangible connection between Heaven and Earth along with how God's love and essence is physically here on Earth. Jesus Christ is the essence of God on Earth in human form. He preaches the ideas and serves as the son of God to his kingdom. When people preach, serve, and worship, God's power is present and the people remember what Jesus was all about when he was on Earth and therefore what God was all about. The concept of God is spread through ideas like the Pentecost, Paul and his conversion, and even in the catacombs of Rome.…

In Rome around 215 A.D., Hippolytus, a priest of Rome—and the first antipope, composed a treatise in order to preserve practices that he thought were in “danger of falling into disuse and innovation.” (intro) The original document only survives in parts of a Latin text and several oriental versions of it. This church order can be divided into three parts. The first section of this treatise talks about the hierarchy of the Church (i.e. bishops—who are chosen by the people, priests, and deacons) and other non-ordained positions in the ecclesial community (i.e. subdeacons, confessors, widows, readers, and virgins). The second portion of the Apostolic Tradition covers the catechumenate (i.e. an inquiry of whether they are a slave or free, what…

    1. According to Kelly, the most superordinate construct within Philip’s construct of clergy would most likely be that clergy members are direct representatives of God and that they carry out his will. Subordinate to this is the daily duties and sacrifices that clergy members must undertake, such as a vow of chastity and the spiritual guidance they must give to parishioners. Further subordinate to this construct is Philip’s perception that differences in views exist amongst clergy members, such as those who advocate reform within the church versus those who are more orthodox.…

If there is such a person as a “typical Catholic priest,” it is not Father H Setter. From his struggle of finding his call, to taking on a parent role, and being one of the most renowned names in the cigar world, his life reveals that he is more than just a casual priest. A stocky, six foot five man dressed in black with a Roman collar definitely stands out in a crowd, but what truly sets him apart is his journey to priesthood and his charismatic personality. He truly is an interesting person, which led him to be my subject for this interview.…

In this paper, I am going to share my ideas of theology. I believe that one of the biggest mistakes I made in the past was that I was afraid of being rejected, so I wrote a theology paper and tried to give the previous COM what I thought they wanted to hear instead of what was truly inside of me. Fortunately for me, even though I was not given a green light in order to see the Eccleastical Council, I was licensed to preach and this gave me time to wrestle with my theology and helped me to see where I stood on these very important areas of Christian faith.…

    i. With the first point I consider striking, I agree with it because I guess it’s an obvious fact, but I would like to comment on the fact itself. Religion, most of which, if not all, was Roman Catholic, played a big part in the Filipinos’ fight for democracy. Without the countless nuns…

    | By divine institution, there are among the Christian faithful in the Church sacred ministers who in law are also called clerics; the other members of the Christian faithful are called lay persons. There are members of the Christian faithful from both these groups who, through the profession of the evangelical counsels by means of vows or other sacred bonds recognized and sanctioned by the Church, are consecrated to God in their own special way and contribute to the salvific mission of the Church; although their state does not belong to the hierarchical structure of the Church, it nevertheless belongs to its life and holiness.[5]…

Philippines is one of the two Catholic predominant countries in Asia, other than East Timor and it is the third largest Catholic country in the world after Brazil and Mexico. As the religion acquired by Spanish colonization with the wonder of its tradition and style and despite of the fact that the country has different languages, 80 percent of the Filipinos are Roman Catholic that shared a common way of life and practice of being a Catholic based on 2008 International Social Survey Programme. This gives the Roman Catholic Church a powerful influence on national life, despite the separation of church and state introduced by the American colonists.…

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION COMMISSION The Religious Education program of a Catholic school is the core of its curriculum. Needless to say, it determines the direction of the faith formation of the students. It also manifests the commitment of the school community to be an active promoter of Christian Values. The Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines which decides on the membership application of an institution based on its catholicity seriously considers the Christian Living program of the institution. Thus, it is pivotal to develop and evaluate the Religious Education curriculum of CEAP members based on a standard that revolves around the foundations of the Catholic Faith. The schools are the partners of parents in this role of providing a healthy and vibrant catholic environment to the young. The Second Vatican Council through the Declaration Gravissimum Educationis has provided a framework for the Congregation for Catholic Education to issue a circular to all presidents of Bishops’ conferences on Religious Education in schools. This circular asserts that “Among all educational instruments the school has a special importance” (GE 5), as it is “the principal assistance to parents in fulfilling the function of education” (c. 796 §1 CIC), particularly in order to favour the transmission of culture and education for co-existence. In this educational setting – and in conformity with international legislation and human rights – “the right of parents to choose an education in conformity with their religious faith must be absolutely guaranteed” (FC 40). Catholic parents “are to entrust their children to those schools which provide a Catholic education” (c. 798 CIC) and, when this is not possible, they must provide for their Catholic education in other ways (cf. Ibidem) The Religious Education Commission of the Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines under the leadership of Fr. Fr. Ely Rafael D. Fuentes, Ph. D. who is also the Regional Director for CEAP…
