Revolution Manque Many people have their own opinion on reconstruction. Some would say it was a success some would say it was a failure, everybody has a different prospective on it though. Reconstruction changed a lot of thing in America and in slave lives. The main goals in reconstruction were achieved so to me it was a success it changed a lot and gave everybody equal rights.
There were many events that went on during reconstruction that aided its success and made a difference. As said on pg.33, one of the first steps that aided in a big way was the enlistment of black men in the union army. This gave them a chance to fight for their own freedom. In a way it was put into their hands and it paid off. They demonstrated impressive fighting qualities and determination to fight for their freedom. Many lost their lives and some won congressional medals all fighting for the same thing freedom and eventually it paid off. Stated on pg.39, the acknowledgement of the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendments by former confederate states made the reconstruction era much more of a success which gave former slaves freedom an equal rights as everybody else.
Reconstruction by some would be described as a missed opportunity, I say it was not. Reconstruction was more of a building point for slaves. It started their journey to become free, it gave them hope and a chance to fight for their freedom. Ok after they were free they had no knowledge or much clothing or money but at least they were free and had a say in things. They weren’t just property, they now had an opportunity to be something on their own and work for their self’s. Of course it was going to be hard to start their lives and that’s probably why some would say it was a missed opportunity. Another way to look at it as an opportunity was that it set out the path for their children to live their live free and be able to pursue whatever they want in life. Without

“Reconstruction is the process by which the states that had seceded were reorganized as part of the Union after the Civil War” . This period lasted from 1865-1877 and was mostly evident in the southern states. This was an important time in the history of the United States because it started a discrimination that turned fellow citizens against each other based on their appearances. This went directly against the Constitution which stated, “All Men are Created Equal” which is ironic because the Civil War was started because each side believed they were more constitutional, and the end result was the opposite of constitutional. In the long run, Reconstruction helped black people move closer to accomplishing to the American Dream. But short term,…

The reconstruction was a success in an outline as it restored the north and south states as a unified nation. However, the reconstruction plan did not go far and deep enough to address the political, economic, and social problems. Reconstruction failed to emerge the southern states into one central government. The radical republicans blamed believed that the confederate leaders should be punished for it. The north and south were hardly on talking relationships.…

Immediately following the civil war, there was great controversy over what to do with the states that attempted secession from the United States. It was clearly not as simply as reinstating their statehood, as this would send the message that not cooperating with the federal government is acceptable. In order to facilitate the reentry of the states into the union, an era of reconstruction ushered in. This would be a time of many ambitious efforts by congress to expand the civil rights of African-Americans. It proved to be a failed effort, overall, because little permanent change occurred. Although reconstruction did manage to raise great controversy and spark some change, it was ultimately a failure, for African-Americans, despite having laws put in place to grant them civil rights, failed to achieve long-term racial integration. It also proved to be short-lived, and its collapse in the mid-1870s, would have immense impact on the future of the south well into the 20th century.…

The word “Reconstruction” is recognized in an American historical context as the reorganization and reestablishment of the seceded states after the civil war. However, this extend of time suffered a fluctuation of freedoms for African Americans in the southern region of the country. While slavery did not exist anymore, reconstruction ended up being fruitful just temporarily, and was basically nullified by the regressive pattern that took after the finish of Reconstruction in 1877. On this piece of writing I will highlight and explain the key components and sources that will prove and validate the failure and abridged success of the efforts aiming to stablish a solid civil rights platform for African Americans. In many ways reconstruction of the south was successful. A lot of those successes included; African Americans elected into political office, 13th, 14th and 15th amendments, new state constitutions, state and local legislation, and federal legislation. Reconstruction led to the end of slavery and protection for all citizens, including African-Americans. Along with these successes, by 1870 all 11 Confederate states had been re-admitted into the United States. Reconstruction also stressed the need of education for African Americans. Before reconstruction took place it was illegal to teach slaves to read and write. Thankfully to the Freedman’s Bureau a school was created for African Americans. The end of slavery impacted African Americans greatly, allowing black families to reunite, marriages to be legally recognized, and black…

Like I had said before, reconstruction was thought of as a bad idea. This is stated because many people thought of the reconstruction plan as a bad idea, thats when the “black codes” came in. The black codes were nothing but a form of disguised slavery. Although they gave blacks the right to own land, and go to court; they still weren't aloud to serve on a jury or aloud to vote. "black codes" just made it easier for the people of the south to continue with their poor treatment towards blacks. As a result, "Black codes" did nothing but for the south but put them in further segregation.…

The Reconstruction gave African Americans a glimpse of how society could look if it were free. If I were in that situation I would have rather had a thought that one day I would be free rather than not have the thought at all. I understand why some people would be upset about that though because they felt like they were getting false promises. For this reason I believe that yes it was a splendid failure. Many people have said that there was nothing splendid about the Reconstruction and that is true to some extent. Andrew Johnson showed poor leadership which made people very upset and a lot of people’s views eventually change. In addition to poor leadership racism and distrust were also a problem but those are not the only things that can be focused on. The fact that there was an attempt made to help the African Americans, is wonderful and took a lot of courage. The long term implications of the Reconstruction and splendid failure include the fact that blacks were seen as less than everyone else and they were dehumanized. I believe that is why people are…
