I can definitively, and honestly state that Paul L. Foster School of Medicine is the school of which I have the greatest interest in attending. For eighteen years, I have called the border city of El Paso my home. Our amiable and uniquely culturally diverse population is the reason that I have found living in El Paso to be extremely comforting. The loving nature of the people of El Paso allowed me to develop many friendships, which helped create countless beautiful memories. I want nothing more than to continue my education in El Paso, and to watch this city continue to evolve. Further, I wish to practice medicine in this community which has given so much to my family and me.…

Along with this second opportunity, a program known as the Summer Discovery Program hosted by the specialized high schools themselves allow students to attend a school that they didn’t get into by a few points. However, this only occurs if the school chooses to host this program. To be eligible for this program, certain factors must be discussed with the guidance counselor. Some of these factors include “being certified as disadvantaged” such that the student attends a Title 1 school, is a foster child or ward of the state or even participates in the Human Resources…

My parents first heard about the new program in the middle of my fifth grade year. Because of the program’s objective, my parents were convinced to enroll me in the program. A week after the interviewing process I was accepted to attend the program. When I first arrived, I notice how the school was smaller than other schools. I also found the environment of the school quite peculiar to what I was immune to. A month later I was one of many students being prepared for college. All three years, as being a Risley student, the program was given a report on its outstanding performances.…

My parents wanted me to go to Young Harris where there is nothing to do, like Pickens, to assure I wouldn’t get into any trouble. I didn't want that for myself, I knew I wanted a semi-city environment to help transition into a more busy area such as Atlanta, where I plan to move post graduation. After long nights of arguing about my future, my parents finally gave in and let me enroll at KSU. After enrolling at KSU I declared my major as Biology. As far as long term goals go I aspire to be a dermatopathologist and plan to later enroll into medical school. I was offered to chance to join a learning community so I took advantage of the opportunity as the email I received portrayed it to be a very beneficial experience. But at the same time I am a “first generation” student and I have absolutely no idea what i'm doing or if joining the community was ,or is, a great decision. I’m not exactly sure what I'm supposed to gain but I'm hoping for more individualized learning and the opportunity to be comfortable enough to ask for help in my classes.…

High school in real life is full of surprises, but according to David Denby in his article "High School Confidential," High School in the movies is very predictable. The typical Hollywood "High School Scene" opens with the jock and the cheerleader characters. Blonde and buff, the Jock and the Cheerleader are superficial and proud to proclaim it. They are popular and perky, and always too good to be true. The cheerleader is usually the enemy of the hero or heroine. She is generally rich, blonde, and queen bee of the social circle, with no sense of selflessness. The jock is usually the bully, muscular, good looking and not very smart.(Denby 343) In an essence, the male counterpart of the cheerleader. The Jock and the Cheerleader are almost always the doppleganger of the hero and heroine. The jock and cheerleader stand for everything the hero despises, yet seemingly have everything that the hero is aiming for.…

It’s easy for me to adjust to different new environments because I have moved six times. I would bring a multi-cultural background to the Academy, with a unique perspective that I know many Kentuckians don’t have. One huge advantage to going to the academy is the idea that it’s stepping stone towards college. Most students immediately graduating high school struggle in their first year of college, and I believe this program will help me overcome that because I’ll be going to college where there are people there to support…

When in high school, one of the most memorable things to do is go to the games, attend homecoming, or the pep rallies every semester. One thing they all have in common is that they are tied to sports. High school sports are an important part of children's lives whether they are the ones attending the game or the one playing in it. A few years ago, Solano County tried to cut sports programs because there was no room in the budget for it. The community reacted by spending their whole summer raising money in any way they could by selling things to standing outside of the mall collecting donations with the fire department. High school sports programs are important and should not be on the list of school cuts.…
