There are one hundred questions on this exam which makes up forty-five percent of your overall grade. I would suggest that you also write your answers on your exam in addition to your Scantron as you will be allowed to keep the exam. Outside materials including dictionaries, electronic devices or anything with an on/off switch, are not to be allowed. In short, the only thing you may have on your desk is the exam, a Scantron and a pencil. “Pencils Down” means just that! I will not accept any Scantron if you write after I say "Pencils Down."…

First of all the concepts in this course were based on the guidelines of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics Standards for k-8 instruction. The council encourages teachers to encourage students by having fun while being taught for example fractions. Another way the concepts learned in this course are relevant to the characteristic of a professional mathematics teacher is the No Child Left behind Act. This course showed us ways to help the struggling child catch up with the class without making the child feel bad about…

Mathematics is a content area that students will encounter every year of the academic lives. Basic mathematical skills are taught beginning in kindergarten, and the mathematical content skills increase in rigor and complexity as students move up to the next grade. To help students become successful mathematicians within and beyond the classroom, educators need to be knowledgeable of effective strategies applicable to the mathematical content being taught. As students are expected to learn and apply new found knowledge, educators should be held to the same expectation. The Base Ten Number System and Operations: Multiplication and Division course at Walden University has provided the opportunity for learning and applying effective mathematical strategies while creating a better understanding of improving my classroom instruction to meet the individual needs of my students.…

    Super Hero in Reality

In this novel, The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay, written by Michael Chabon, is trying to illustrate Joe Kavalier as a manifestation of a superhero in the form of a mortal. Joe Kavalier is one of the comic book artists who escaped from Nazi Germany when he was fourteen. Throughout the novel, Joe unknowingly personifies a masked superhero. His experiences emulate those of a super hero and he attempts to save the lives of his family as a super hero would save the citizens of a city. Some of these experiences include: his quest to travel to America, his desires while he is in America, and his sacrifices for the success of his quest. Through his experiences, Joe himself becomes the embodiment of what it means to be a masked hero. He learns unique skills from a master and uses these skills in order to get where he wants to be. A bit like how a super hero is not usually born great, but has to go through some such turmoil in order to become super. He has the urge to save his family members who are still stuck in Nazi Germany. This is similar to how a masked super hero attempts to keep the citizens of their city safe. Also, Joe eventually loses himself after the loss of his brother, Thomas. This is similar to how most super heroes will have one weakness and once that weakness is taken advantage of, the hero is nearly powerless to fight back. These experiences that Joe has throughout his life makes him almost turn into the super heroes he is writing about in his comics. His character is the personification of what a super hero would be if that hero had no super power.…

    A Hero in Disguise

A hero is one who often times has immense physical strength, romantic appeal, and has a great deal of strength in battle. A hero can be defined as "a mythological or legendary figure often of divine descent endowed with great strength or ability" (Merriam-Webster). Many times one can find a hero possessing these qualities in fairy tales, mythological stories, or even in their own home. He may be the prince who wakes his Sleeping Beauty, Hercules who endures much turmoil, or a father who is sent off to fight for his country in a war. However, Sir Thomas More is not any of these men. He is not a man of extraordinary strength, exceptional good looks, or fights in any physical battles. Instead, More is the hero unlike any other. He can be defined as "a man admired for his achievements and noble qualities" or "one that shows great courage" (Merriam-Webster). He is one who fights a spiritual battle. One would say he is a martyr who is largely respected and looked upon as one of the greatest heroes of his time.…

Albert Camus’ The Stranger follows the life of Meursault, an Algerian man, who is also the protagonist and narrator of the novel. Divided into two parts, the narrative offers a comprehensive, albeit detached, account of Meursault’s life before and after he commits a senseless, apparently unprovoked slaying. As Meursault starts off as removed, emotionless man without a care for his friends and family aspects of Camus’s philosophy of the “absurd” can be uncovered. On the surface, Meursault’s apathy and indifference signify not a failed man, but an fully, self-aware absurd one however; it is not until Meursault is faced with the absurdity of the human condition during his murder trial and subsequent death sentencing that he truly develops into the “absurd hero”.…
