Visiting the doctor can be a nail biting experience, but try to stop nibbling because unchewed nails give a good guide to your health over the past six to nine months. It takes thins long for fingernails to grow from base to tip, and provided injury, infection and detergents have not damaged the nail, flaking, ridges and white spots all mean you are undernourished.

I want you to concentrate on your breathing, just be aware of every breath.. now I want you to take a deep breath and hold it for a moment before breathing out slowly... just allowing your whole body to relax as you do so... and I want you to keep your eyes closed now and just keep listening quietly to the sound of my voice... you'll be aware of those other sounds, too... sounds inside the building, sounds from outside, people walking outside... but these won't disturb you... in fact, they'll help to relax you as they fade away as you concentrate on your breathing. And the sound of my voice, the only sound you're interested in is the sound of my voice... and while you're listening to the sound of my voice, I want you to concentrate for a moment on your breathing... breathing slowly and steadily and evenly, just as if you were trying to convince somebody that you were absolutely sound asleep... and as you breathe out each time, just allowing your whole body to relax more and more... so that you gradually find yourself feeling as if your whole body was sinking further and further into the chair with each breath you breathe...…

The white spots on the fingernails are called “leukonychia” and are very common. Generally, the spots are signs of some injury to the base of the nail. By the time the spot shows up, the injury was probably forgotten about. The white spots can be from trauma from a previous manicure. Sometimes, the white spots can indicate an underlying disease, but the changes should be more dramatic than just the occasional spots. Nails that turn completely white indicated liver disease, but would most likely already know because of other symptoms. White spots are not caused by calcium deficiency.…

While ingrown toenails can also be caused by ill-fitting shoes, most of them are the result of poorly trimmed nails. According to the Cleveland Foot and Ankle Clinic, "Cutting toenails properly goes a long way toward the prevention of ingrown toenails. Using a safety nail clipper, cut the nails straight across, so that the nail corner is visible. If you cut the nail too short, you are inviting the nail corner to grow into the skin." The corners of the nail should not be cut out, except by a podiatrist. Have a home care aid regularly assist with the trimming and care of the nails can also go a long way in preventing ingrown…
