Health Science Case Study
1) What are your personal goals and interests in pursuing a Health Sciences Career? At a very early age I was introduced to the medical field. I’ve grown up with a majority of my family working in health care. When I would hear family members talk about their days at work, I would soak in every word they said. During their conversations they would use medical terminology that I did not understand. I would think to myself “one day, I’m going to know what they are taking about.” I still hold this goal tightly, I strive to be able to talk to my family about their days at work and not be confused in the process. I have participated in many volunteering activities, and each one causes me to fall deeper in love with helping people. I have never felt such a deep happiness for something than the joy I feel when I make other people smile. I began volunteering at the zoo in sixth grade, and ever since then, I yearn for the opportunity to help people. I believe that going into health care will be the most fitting place for me. In the medical field I can help others and aid them in experiencing a happier and healthier life. Even if I help just one person, I have made a difference in the world.

2) What do you hope to gain from this internship experience?

I have found the health care field fascinating for as long as I can remember. The way the human body works is truly incredible. It is unbelievable how much the human body can do. The complexity really amazes me and I soak up any information concerning the human body. In seventh grade, we were introduced to the bones in the body. I had every one memorized before we left class. I was, and still am very passionate in my curiosity of anything to do with health

There are many aspects of health care that intrigue me. I’ve always wanted to be a nurse; unfortunately it is very difficult to get into the program. However, if I ever go back to do that, I would want to either do labor and delivery or pediatrics. I have had the privilege of witnessing the birth of one of my nieces and it was the most amazing experience. To be a nurse and being a part of that on a daily basis would be awesome. I also have an extra soft spot for children, which is why pediatrics would also be of interest to me. Life threatening diseases do not only affect adults. I feel that being able to help children would only be helping our future.…

Length of stay was not the only process that was made more effective with the implementation of the PSH model at UC Irvine Health. Another aspect that was positively affected by the PSH model was turnover time of a procedure. According to UC Irvine Health ninety two percent of procedures start at 7:30 in the morning. With the implementation of the PSH model the turnover time averaged about 29 minutes. This was a 31 percent improvement from before the PSH model was implemented. For those worried about the performance of a surgeon because the turnover time improved, it went unaffected. According to UC Irvine Health, the 166 cases researched that all 166 cases had 100.00 performance rates. Because the performance of the surgeons was so high in less amount of time, this lowered the readmission rate for the same health issue. UC Irvine found that the readmission rate for hip arthroplasties is zero percent. The national average for readmission for a knee arthroplasty is between 2.5 percent and 4.3 percent compared to UC Irvine Health readmission rate which is 1.1 percent…

There are many factors fused together that affect the health of communities and individuals. Whether individuals are healthy or not, is determined by their environment and circumstances. These factors include where we live, the condition of our genetics, environment, our education and income level, and our relationships with family and friends all have considerable impacts on health, considered that the more widely known factors such as availability and use of health care services often have less of an influence( World Health Organization (2010).…

Ideally out of the four foundation health measures, I have put a lot of weight in discussing the foundation health measure of general health status. There are four main foundation health measures, but it is quite evident that general health status plays an integral part in postulating efficiency of health by ensuring that the disparities are eliminated and the improve of good health. Health status is paramount as it gives an analysis as to the quality of life of one. The goal of all these health measures is to foresee that quality of life is uplifted for the entire life of one. Actually, general health depicts the overall state of information targeting the population of the health (Ness, et al 2015). This is to say that, to uphold a good population through health there is needed to have a look on the following parameters;…

As I approach the midpoint of my internship at the Caringkind Alzheimer and Dementia organization, I gained a better sense of understanding and clarity at the competencies needed in order to run a successful business. These areas can range from observing a staff that possessed competencies that exuded a presence of confidence, and professionalism while presenting material to the community at need. But the most notable competency was their ability to simplify highly technical medical jargon terminology to simpler terms that may confuse community individuals based on subject matter. While these are just a few of the admirable characteristics that I hope to develop for myself while experiencing the support system that this organization has…

Everything in my life began to change, from my friends to my attitude. My future was looking bright. The only thing left was to pick a profession, something that would ignite my spark. That was when my parents were involved in a terrible accident. In March 2009, my parents were pedestrians struck by a car. My mother was diagnosed with a fractured tibial plateau, and was wheelchair bound for five months. During this difficult time I accompanied her to numerous appointments and met many different medical personnel. Surprisingly, I became inspired. It was an awful time for my family, but it was an experience that changed my life. Everything about the healthcare system fascinated me. I asked many questions about medications, imaging techniques that were used on my mother, and job descriptions of practically everyone I had encountered. I remember telling a nurse about how I found the hospital to be the most interesting place that I have ever visited and she replied, “Well if you feel that way, you should become a doctor, they practically live…
