Greek Mythology: Daphne
Daphne was a Naiad nymph. In Greek mythology, Naiads are minor characters often associated with fountains, wells, springs, and other of freshwater bodies. She is described to be very beautiful, so beautiful that the God of Light--among other things-- Apollo was quite fond of her. He was very determined to win the heart of Daphne, but she was determined to protect her virginity. Apollo was a very cocky person and began to tease the god Eros (Cupid). This angered Eros and he shot Apollo with a gold-tipped arrow and Daphne with a lead one. The gold-tipped arrow made Apollo fall deeply in love with Daphne and the lead one made Daphne despise Apollo. Apollo constantly followed Daphne and made several advances on her which angered Daphne. In book 7 and 8, Athena alters how Odysseus appears to others. In book 7, Odysseus has arrived in Phaeacia and makes his way to the King’s palace. During his walk, the narrator explains how Athena alters Odysseus’s appearance: “Pallas Athena, harboring kindness for the hero, drifted a heavy mist around him, shielding him from any swaggering islander who’d cross his path… [and] search out who he was” (VII.16-19). Here, Athena tries to help Odysseus by concealing him during his journey by surrounding him with mist. Mist conceals or hides objects that would otherwise be visible. This shows that Odysseus wants to be hidden from other people, and is not ready to be in the public eye yet. The narrator also explains the mist shields him from the islanders.…

It is clear that Athena is a bad “goddess” in the Odyssey. When Odysseus returns to his home, Athena suggests he test the suitors to see who is guilty. Even though she sets this task for him, Homer says that “But not even so would Athena save one man from death.”(pg.291) Inferring that even if the suitor was innocent she would still have them executed, this action of hers contradicts what it means to be good therefore she can’t be, she must be bad. Following this, Athena allowed the suitors to insult Odysseus wanting “to make the anguish cut still deeper into the core of Laertes’ son Odysseus.”(pg.312) Athena knew what Odysseus has been through and that he has been waiting to return home for a while so to allow insults to flow through the…

Notwithstanding their significance in the foundations of Ancient Greek Mythology, the decency towards ladies' energy in mythology can likewise be identified from the development of essential sexually unbiased divine beings. These divinities withdraw from the prominent origination of their given parts and are both refined and valuable, and also adored in Greek society. The men have impulses to support and the capacity to make and benevolently give. The ladies have fearlessness and quality and the yearning to battle and secure and tame. This can be very much exemplified through Athena, goddess of intelligence, war, expressions of the human experience, industry, equity and aptitude. "He himself bore from his head brilliant peered toward Athena, the great, battle awakening, armed force driving, unweary special lady whose enjoyment is eat and wars and battling" (Hesiod, 58, Lines 924-927). Subsequent to gulping his significant other, Metis, in trepidation that she would uncovered a child who might usurp his throne, Athena sprang from her dad's skull, full developed and in a full arrangement of defensive layer. Because of her estate of birth she had domain over all things of the judgment. Athena dresses as a man and shares in fighting, yet is actually female. In any case, as the goddess of astuteness, enveloping tricky insight, she gets regard and a position of power both on and off Olympus paying little respect to her sexual orientation. This is correspondingly found in the character Dionysus, the child of the god Zeus and the mortal lady, Semele. While Dionysus is a male god, the mortal structure he takes is said to be to a great degree womanly in The Bacchae by Euripides. "Well! You are very good looking, stranger, for ladies' taste—and that is the thing that conveys you to Thebes. Your hair is long—evidently you never wrestle. It streams over your cheeks, loaded with request. What's more, your composition is so clear, studiously so. The sun never gets at it; it is…

The Gods and Goddesses of Greek mythology have gained their fame based on their own roles within Greek culture, and have been attributed to becoming the God or Goddess of a specific concepts, objects, or personal talents. Basing his novel mainly on this idea, Riordan forms a world within the novel, where the behaviors of characters refers to the titles or powers of certain Gods or Goddess. Specifically the Goddesses of Athena and Aphrodite, Riordan steadily allows the put down of Aphrodite and raises Athena on a pedestal. Aphrodite, the Goddess of Love and Beauty, is seen to represent the old fashioned mindset of women as being only figures of physical beauty and having little to no role in society. Shown by Percy’s calm tone and attitude in…

Athena, the grey-eyed goddess of wisdom and battle, has a soft spot for Odysseus and Telemachos. The action begins with a meeting of the gods, where Athena makes a plea on behalf of Odysseus, asking her father, "Why, Zeus, are you now so harsh with him?" (I, 62). This action, paired with another intervention into a meeting of the gods, shows Athena's initiative and nerve, two traits which would have been greatly admired by Homer's audience. Athena also shows cleverness and ingenuity when she disguises herself and others on several occasions: The goddess first appears as Mentes, and then later as Mentor, Telemachos himself, Penelope's sister, a friend of Nausikaa's, and various servants. Not only is she a master of disguises, but Athena has an incredible sense of when it is necessary to appear as someone else in order to achieve her goals. While possibly just a product of Athena's goddess status, her ability to view the "big picture" is quite a highly regarded trait. Athena also has the virtue of restraint which she demonstrates when she does not take part in the final battle between Odysseus and Telemachos and the suitors.…
