Grassy Salt Short Story
Grassy Salt My friend and I were in Death Valley and we driving to this place called the Devil’s Golf Course. From the impression, I thought it was going to be an overrated mount of spiky grass. Except, I was astonished when we got there because for more than a 1 mile, I saw mounds VERY SHARP rock. My friends and I were in awe of the scenery ahead of us. Though, questions swam in my head. What was this land of crumbling rock? Was the world gonna dry out like this had? Was I gonna die? They were very negative questions but I was still very curious. “Why is this here?” I interrogated my dad. “Hahaha,” he had clearly anticipated my childish fear. “This is just an evaporated land of salt.” he said. I knew what evaporation was, so that had pretty much answered half of my questions. …show more content…
“This is the salt that has been gathering here for hundreds of years,” my father replied. Wow, I thought. This is so cool! These sharp ‘rocks’ were just a large dried up troop of salt mounts.
I started to step on them, when my dad hooted from the car,
“Be careful, Apurv!”
“I will!” I howled back and started to trek about the salt. I took a giant piece of salt from a rock that day. Don’t judge me. It was a

If possible, try to avoid pushing each other over the edge, as that would cause me extra paperwork.” The coach opened the doors, and they all stepped outside. The Grand Canyon spread before them, live and in person. Extending over the edge was a horseshoe-shaped walkway made of glass, so you could see right through it. “Man,” Leo said. “That’s pretty wicked.” Jason had to agree. Despite his amnesia and his feeling that he didn’t belong there, he couldn’t help being impressed. The canyon was bigger and wider than you could appreciate from a picture. They were up so high that birds circled below their feet. Five hundred feet down, a river snaked along the canyon floor. Banks of storm clouds had moved overhead while they’d been inside, casting shadows like angry faces across the cliffs. As far as Jason could see in any direction, red and gray ravines cut through the desert like some crazy god had taken a knife to it. Jason got a piercing pain behind his eyes. Crazy gods ... Where had he come up with that idea? He felt like he’d gotten close to something important—something he should know about. He also got the unmistakable feeling he was in danger. “You all right?” Leo asked. “You’re not going to throw up over the side, are you? ’Cause I should ’ve brought my camera.” Jason grabbed the railing. He was shivering and sweaty, but it had nothing to do with heights. He blinked, and the pain behind his eyes subsided. “I’m fine,” he managed. “Just a headache.” Thunder…

Evaporation is the process of a liquid becoming vaporized. When a liquid is placed into a confined space some of the liquids will evaporate. Evaporation of the liquid depends on the strength of the intermolecular forces that are between liquid molecules. During the evaporation process of the liquid, new gas molecules exerts pressure in the sealed container, while some of the gas condenses back to the liquid state. If the temperature inside the container is kept constant, then the equilibrium at some point will be reached. When the equilibrium is reached, the rate of condensation is equal to the rate of evaporation and the rate of vapor pressure will remain constant as long as the temperature in the sealed container does not change.…

One morning, we decided to go out with some of the guests from the hostel for a hike along the hills by the seashore. These hills were covered in thick blades of grass but had rock faces that were pointed out towards the water. If you looked to your left you’d see these hills go for miles; mound after mound, circular shaped huts with cone shaped roofs sitting on top. African trees as well, looking as if the wind was blowing all the branches to one side of the trunk but they stood absolutely still; frozen in time. To your right you’d see the ocean go out for as far as you can see, while standing on a cliff with an almost vertical drop. From looking at the cliffs from the sides, it showed the many trails descending down the cliffs made by mountain goats and every once and a while you could see one half way down; climbing up. Although our surroundings were incredible, the heat was as well. We went through several bottles of water through-out the hike. Our leader, an African local, lead us down one of the more climbable hills to the ocean floor where it was covered in rock. With the sun beating down on us we felt trapped because we couldn’t swim in the water, the waves were too strong we’d be thrown up against the rocks.…

We were all sucked dry from the sun that day with zero energy left, we scavenged what we could and we still ate better than we could have at any local dinner. The day was still long and was only going to get hotter and longer even as the day came to a close. There was more things to do around the land than there was at any theme park. So as we all sat around and waited for something to do you could tell that everyone was thinking the same thing as sweat poured down all of our faces. The cold spring fed creek was the only thing that was going through my mind and I knew that was the only thing going through anyone else’s. We walked down to the creek as there was no other way that you could reach it, and as we got closer and closer you could hear the light eco of the fifteen foot waterfall coming off of the trees. The only thing I was looking for was the spit of the water flowing up through the large oak and misquote tree branches. You knew when everyone saw the water, you could see the sight of the crystal clear water shining off of everyones eyes and you could tell that there was a sudden sign of relief that came upon everyone after the long walk through the large misquote trees avoiding as many thorns and cactuses as they possibly could, being careful as could be you weren't going to miss all of them. And there was no better feeling than soaking your wounds in that…

We said our final goodbyes to our house and started driving towards California with our cramped car. Beforehand my parents planned some places where we were going to go to along the way such as going to places we been never before, but eventually in about a week we would reach California! My mom and dad said that “we will definitely be going to Niagara Falls and Mount Rushmore and the rest of the things we will figure out along the way.” We went through Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska, Colorado, Wyoming, South Dakota, Utah, Colorado, and Nevada. To start, the first interesting place we stopped at was Niagara Falls in Ontario, Canada. At Niagara Falls we listened to the sound of the water rushing and the crisp and clear sound of the water. Our family took pictures in front of the waterfall with the water flying in our faces. “The waterfall is so pretty with that rainbow,” my family said in awe. At Niagara Falls the water was rushing down so fast you could hear the clear and crisp swooshing sound of the water. Niagara Falls is a waterfall that formed about 12,000 years ago and in the 1900’s it became a popular place for daredevils to do stunts and for people to go on honeymoons. On the way to our next stop we stopped by Notre Dame College in Indiana. Our family quickly looked at the campus and football field…

Finally we reached the top and proceeded on foot up a slope about one hundred meters. As we approached the crater, someone was standing on the tip waving his hand excitedly and shouting for us to climb quickly. Encouraged by him, we climb as quickly as we could in spite of the fact that the slope was composed of powdered lava. Upon arriving our destination, we stood there in a awe of the tremendous beauty of the Lake of Heaven directly below us. The surface of the lake was as smooth as a bright mirror showing off a reflection of the surrounding hills. A thin mist-like weil…
