Gpa To Play Sports
Essay # 1
Should students have certain Gpa to play sports “Winners never quit and quitters never win” Vince lombardi. This quote is relevant because if you quit in school you don't win in sports. Yes students should have to have a certain gpa to play sports because they might quit on school to focus on sports. If students only have to pass the class to play sports they might do just enough so they can play sports. If school made it so that students would have to have a certain gpa to play sports that might also help them get into the colleges they want to go to.
Students don't usually play sports their whole life most of them retire at an early age. So if they don't do good in school what will they do for a job when they retire from sports.

Education needs to be placed on the forefront, while athletics should come after, regardless of how good the athlete may be in his or her choice of sport. Unfortunately, this is a drawback for some athletes – having to maintain their eligibility. Some students maintain great grades during high school and possibly are awarded a scholarship to a school of higher learning so to speak. When all too often, the only reason they are awarded to go there is to play the sport they excel in. These actions can and will play an important part in the athlete’s future, if they do not have a back-up plan in academics. I remember not too long ago, a few high school graduates that were awarded scholarships to college to play football. I had asked one of the students what study they were majoring in. They said to me they did not know, they were going to be in home economics course to start. I think all too often, some colleges focus on the person as a whole. With this continually happening year after year, one would have to ask themselves how smart the children are in our society, or does it even matter as long as they can throw the ball seventy…

Student athletes already receive benefits for playing college sports including an education, housing, meals, transportation, and other essentials. This gives them a bonus compared to traditional students of the college. If student athletes start getting paid, there would be no fair way to pay them and it would ruin the college sports industry. Student-athletes should do what previous players have done, which is to play their sport for the love of the game. For those reasons, Student athletes should remain…

According to “The Value of Sports,” athletes are able to set better long time goals and strive for them, vs non-athletes, (2). Athletes who play sports are more focused in school, they are more motivated, and they learn skills that may improve their life in the future. There is a rule called No Pass No Play, which means if you don’t pass a class in school, you can’t play a sport (No Pass, no play law affects many students throughout Texas) (1). This rule is effective in states like Texas. Americans should be for students without passing grades being able to play sports, because students in clubs are not affected, and the youth of America needs the teachings and values that sports are able to bring. Athletes in school tend to do better in school…

Student-athletes deserve more benefits because at most 10% of each sports’ athletes will go pro and make a living off of it. Benefits don’t have to be just receiving money, they can be anything to help the person out. Whether it be less homework, extra time for homework, or anything really. Athletes will make the most of their benefits and use them as much as they possibly can. They shouldn’t be punished for playing a sport in college, they should in a way be “rewarded” especially if they are a winning team. These young adults are putting their bodies on the line every minute of their game to make a name for their team and their school, this is the least that schools could do to help them…

Athletes tend to be more prone to injury than a non athletic person. If an athlete were to compete on a professional level were the speed of the action is moving faster than a hurricane, that athlete would almost be guaranteed to suffer some sort of injury. Maybe it’s a simple pulled muscle, that athlete would be able to come back and compete again. Let’s say the athlete was not so lucky and got hit be someone so hard it appeared that he got ran over by a semi truck going 65. The athlete would not be able to return back to his or her sport. Now what will the athlete do to make a steady income? If the athlete finished school he or she will have an occupation they will be able to get right into. If the athlete did not finish…

In conclusion, student athletes should get paid for the time that they put into there sport. The time that they dedicate to there sport is equal to the time someone has to put into a job. Only one fourth of college athletes receive a scholarship, the many of these are partial and only one percent of all student athletes make it to the pros. Since, the majority of student athletes do not receive full scholarship and do not go pro, colleges should pay the athlete as if there sport was their job to help them pay off college and other…

The NCAA or National Collegiate Athletic Association, will not allow students to play sports unless they meet the required GPA and standardized test score. This is good since an actual association that has to do with college sports, agrees with the fact that student athletes should have to maintain a certain grade point average to participate in sports. Good grades also portray your character, coaches also look for character, whether it’s respectful, responsible, or even having good sportsmanship. Impressing a coach with good grades can be beneficial when trying to get selected into a team because there is a higher chance of being selected. As previously stated, good grades show character, and having good character can also help students be selected into a team. Nonetheless coaches look at everything, although athletic abilities is one of the thing they look at, grades are what matter the…

was a classed that used to be a requirement according to the article. “In the 1920s, almost all universities required P.E. classes toward degrees.” In my opinion if a physical education class was required to receive a degree then there be a degree for it. For my final reason the article said, “But one question that gets little attention is how schools can keep big-time athletics connected to their academic objectives.” I do firmly believe a degree in athletics could help contribute to this problem if athletes connecting to their academic objective. If you want to play a sport and playing it isn’t contributing to their major why would you do both. At that point, the only thing that makes since is to drop either your classes or your sport. In my opinion that is how the situation is for most athletes at a collegiate level. With most of the situations and theories in this article I believe them to be true, but not very impactful on the decision allowing a sports degree. In conclusion, there are many reasons why sports should have a degree, and they can be compared to the fine arts in respects of having a…
