Going To College
There are a few students who have factors which have influenced their decision on whether or not they would like to go to college. I've interviewed a friend of mine named, Meagan King. She goes to Fordham University and is also a part of the Alvin Ailey Program. I asked her several questions such as, "Do you think college is needed in order to have a good career and why?, did your financial status affect whether u went to college?, how is the audition process?, Advice on college processes?, and how difficult is it to get into a BFA program?". Within the following paragraphs are responses from Meagan to my questions.

Many students believes that everyone needs college to have a good career in life. Meagan also agrees. She stated that, "Yes,

Meagan stated, "Financially it has affected me, but I tried my best to receive a scholarship which I succeeded in. All students should look into receiving a scholarship or financial aid within schools that they're looking forward to going to. I've seen too many of my friends have to decline their top choice of schools because they couldn't afford the tuition financially". Some may have a negative and others may have a positive reaction. Meagan stated, "You should write drafts of all your essays for the different schools this month so that there's less pressure once deadlines come around. Also, if you can, apply to many different schools to widen your options. Make sure that for recommendation letters, you go to a teacher you know is really fond of you. Many colleges really look into those letters. You can also try to visit the schools you're looking to apply to beforehand because actually being on the campus gives you better understanding of what the school is like. And I think the most important piece of advice I can give you is to look into applying for outside scholarships NOW". One main factor is money in this day and age. Students will gain more money if they obtain a college

When it comes to embarking on post secondary education the views of it’s importance and relevance is controversial. In Murray’s Op-Ed piece, “Should The Obama Generation Drop Out”, he believes a college education is unnecessary. I, however disagree with Murray’s notion. Everyone grows up hearing their loved ones tell them how college is the uppermost important decision a person can make, pushing them to attend a college. But is college really the best choice? The stories of Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg and Steve Jobs show that sometimes college would not be the best idea for some people. Even my father, who dropped out of college, is very successful and supports his family wealthily, while not having to do as much work as most people. the second big problem, however, is that I think we should get more cynical than Bruenig does. If the level of subsidy were increased enough to eliminate tuition, the faculty and administrators of public universities would still thirst for more money. A logical place to raise the money would be—tuition. After all, a college degree is a valuable commodity. And the kids in college are mostly from families with above-average incomes. Having eliminated tuition, the tuition would simply come back. In exchange, you'd get more tenure-track faculty, more administrators, more weird perks for university presidents, nicer facilities, etc.…
