The best time to introduce the Glows and Grows strategy in the media center is at the end of the third week. By the third week students will be familiar with the rules and expectations of media class and the media center. To begin we will discuss what the meaning of “Glow” and “Grow” are and I will provide examples if the students cannot. As a class we will reflect on the highlights (glows) of the previous three weeks and the things we want to improve on (grows) for the following weeks. See Glows & Grows sheet in the appendix. Instead I would encourage students to generalize on the behavior of the class as a whole and recognize things that work and don’t work within each individual group. When we revisit the “Grow” piece in future weeks, if true growth is made, then it will be reflected on …show more content…
As a Specials teacher I often do not get much contact with parents. Using the Glow & Grow sheet (see page 2 in Appendix) will allow me to recognize the successes of each student as well as address any behavior issues early in the year. In many cases I only talk to parents for extreme behavior problems. The “Grow” piece will allow me to address all the mild behavior problems in a positive way as I will also give a “Glow” as

Children beginning school for the first time will need to build their confidence in trusting adults they are unfamiliar with. We can help with this process by projecting a happy, warm approachable personality. Taking time for a child to speak and responding with an appropriate reply and perhaps another questions will begin a conversation and build trust. We need to praise regularly in order to continue helping them become secure and projecting positive emotions.…

As a teaching assistant it is important to acknowledge different aspects of child development. Babies and children may reach significant milestones at different ages, for example some babies will learn to crawl earlier than others, which are less advanced and often require nurturing. Therefore it is important to remember that development is a holistic process and that each child is unique and will develop in their own way and at different rates. Milestones give a broad average of development for when children may expect to reach a particular stage. Some pupils stand out from others because they have reached a particular milestone ahead of or later than them. Sometimes if children’s growth patterns are very different from their peers, this can have an effect on their behaviour. If this is the case then there may need to be additional provisions made for them.…
