Geronimo Tilton And Magic Tree House
Throughout the twelve years of my life, I have done a lot of reading. Every year, my reading level improves or my interests change. Often, I find myself looking at my bookshelf; at my old books. The books bring back memories, both funny and mournful. Before, in second grade, I read Geronimo Stilton and Magic Tree House. The books had really big fonts and a myriad of pictures. Furthermore, the books rarely surpassed 100 pages and the stories were much easier. Next, between fourth and fifth grade, I got into chapter books like The Heroes of Olympus. The fonts were much smaller, and there were no more pictures in the book. The plot was much more complex and the book itself was physically bigger. The series was easy, yet it was still more difficult

Growing up, I enjoyed family bookshelves which were just as stocked with cookbooks as they were with serial killer encyclopedias. Even before I could fully read all its components, I absorbed information from my mom’s collection, scrutinizing crime scene photos I shouldn’t have and piecing cakes together from the fragments of recipes I could understand. In my parents’ eyes, my reading preferences were on par with flipping through a Magic Treehouse book: as long as I learned and remained relatively un-traumatized, they encouraged me to learn about the world through diverse, oftentimes conflicting, dimensions of storytelling. This approach forged the reader I am today and fostered my love for the duality of written worlds.…

“Books are uniquely portable magic,” Stephen King wrote in On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft. I quite agree with this view. In retrospect, the genres of books which I read gradually varied as of aged. Additionally, those books which I have read, broadened my horizon and improved my comprehension ability to some degree.…

Reading is my life. It’s my escape from the world around me. I love getting lost in a story about monsters and myths, or a Cinderella gone wrong. If I didn’t draw as much as I did, I’d probably be the anti-social bookworm in the back, like in all those cliche teenage love stories. It’s actually quite surprising to see how many people dislike books, there’s nothing wrong with a little reading every once and awhile. But who am I to judge? I wasn’t a very big reader myself until maybe two years ago. Of course, that leads to the first reason why I enjoy reading so much.…

On the surface one may feel that there is a clear divide between children’s books and adults. For instance if we take a look at a typical children’s book cover we often find them to be colourful and decorated with illustrations. In contrast to the supposed adult books that often have mundane simple covers. However, to distinguish if there is a clear divide between children’s books and adults books one must look further than just the cover.…

As my first grade teacher rolls the giant TV station into my class, a majority of my fellow classmates let out an over exaggerated sigh. The lights shut and the screen flicks on, filling the room with the outdated theme song to Reading Rainbow, beginning the reading lesson for the day. From despising Reading Rainbow and getting my first Junie B. Jones book to reading The Catcher in the Rye and Fahrenheit 451, my love for reading has grown to the point of wanting to own a library that one would see on pinterest when looking for cute bookshelf ideas.…

Although there is much I can’t recall from my early days of reading, there are some momentous flashbacks. When I was beginning elementary school my parents were very eager to introduce me to doing a great deal of reading, they wanted me to enjoy reading for a while and they succeeded. We lived within walking distance of the public library which allowed us to frequently visit the library to read and check out books. I always remembered the vast shelves of books that seemed like they never had an end. In addition to reading at the library we checked books out to bring home to read, this allowed me to read as much as I wanted to. Correspondent to the amount of reading I did, the more I enjoyed it and improved at reading.…

In my younger years, my parents would read to me often. They thought it was critical for me to be exposed to literature at a young age. It was not long before I read my first book. I was introduced to many Dr. Seuss books. Therefore, it was no surprise that Green Eggs and Ham was the first book I read by myself. From then on I progressed into my favorite series of books, Magic Treehouse. These books followed two kids, Jack and Annie, who discover a treehouse with magical powers. They travel back in time to the dinosaurs, mummies, and ice age. They also traveled to…

My Math teacher made a difference on my reading life. He always had good books to lend me. My appreciation for reading increased with many books he suggested. I’m very glad he was in my life to help to develop my reading skills. Although, I had to learn a new language when I moved to United Sates. I still enjoy reading. My favorite books are the fiction books. I still enjoyed the feeling of traveling to different worlds and be part of adventures. If a book has a kingdom, king, historical pieces, new languages, weird people, villains, and a hero, that it will be a book I’ll…

From Hardy Boys to Geronimo Stilton, I remember having every single book that came out from the series, and reading it from front to back. As time progressed and middle school hit, I usually just read the really long books such as the Unfortunate Series of Events and Harry Potter Series in order to finish all my points for the semester, but it made me go out of my comfort zone and actually dedicate my time and attention to the book. My love for reading faded away as I went into high school, with mainly time and technology being the main reasons for my decline in reading. As high school came along, getting time to read was hard due to my schedule during the school years. Although I hardly read independently, I still enjoy reading the news online and short stories I find on Twitter, which are way more convenient and quicker to read. I also try to keep up with the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series during the summer and would like to finish the reading the Series of Unfortunate Events books, to find out what happens to Violet, Klaus, and Sunny after all these…

The newness of reading had worn off by junior high. My leisure reading had decreased significantly due to sports and increase in textbook reading assignments made by our teachers. The textbook reading assignments changed how I felt about reading. When in elementary school, reading was learning, but what we were reading were nothing more than stories made up by a publishing company. There was usually a lesson learned at the end of the story. Textbooks didn’t have that same story like nature. They were full of facts and what seemed like complex analogies and theories. Reading was not fun anymore.…
