Leadership During The Great War Kaiser Wilhelm II was in charge of Germany. He was the oldest grandchild of British Queen Victoria. His ties to Britain would play an important role in his political views. He became the emperor of Germany in 1888 after the death of Frederick II. When he was crowned he set Germany onto a new course in foreign affairs. He supported Austria-Hungary. Wilhelm II was also the leader of the military.
