George Rr Martin
In interest of bettering my own writing, it is sensible to seek to understand the works of writers I admire, and enjoy. I enjoy reading science fiction novels, both of these authors write about science fiction. I have selected passages written by George R.R. Martin, a successful genre author and also George Griffith also a wonderful author. Martin’s prose shifts depending on the needs of the narrative, and conveys a large amount of information and detail in only a few sentences; it is interesting to note that it was difficult to find a contiguous passage that I liked. Also Martin wrote “A Games of Thrones” my favorite show on HBO. Griffith wrote my favorite book, “A Honey Moon in Space”. They both are amazing science fiction authors, who I enjoy reading both of there books.
George R.R Martin George R.R Martin was born on September 20, 1948 in Bayonne New Jersey. George R.R. Martin is a successful writer of fantasy, science fiction, and horror. In 1970 he graduated from Northwestern University in Evanston Illinois with his B.S in Journalism, he went on to complete his M.S in Journalism in 1971. George did alternative service from 1972-1974 with VISTA. (Martin) He became a full time writer in 1979. He began his professional career writing short science fiction stories, and soon followed these works with several full- length novels. In the 1980’s he worked primarily as an editor and television writer. He moved on to Hollywood, as he signed his story “Twilight Zone” with CBS in 1986, and in 1987 he became the producer of “Beauty and the Beast”. In 2006 he was working on a lengthy fantasy called “A Song of Ice and Fire”, which he estimates will encompass six or seven

The short Essay, An Experiment in Criticism, by C.S. Lewis brings to light many new perspectives to how people read and experience literature. Throughout the essay Lewis works to give the message that; how good a book is doesn’t depend on the quality of writing but on the reader. He begins by defining two types of readers- the “literary” and the “non-literary”- which he uses through the rest of his essay to categorize different traits for treating literature.…

My short attention span of that time was drawn to Ray Bradbury’s story since at that time I loved space exploration, and the idea of colonizing Mars intrigued me, so I decided to read it over winter break. I remember sitting by the crackling fire with the sound of my cousins playing board games in the background. Despite this, I tuned these sounds out and read about the adventures of Captain Nathaniel York and his mysterious disappearance from Mars. This book’s style of having mini stories within a larger picture encouraged me to then keep reading this story until the end. When the story was over, I became distraught over the fact that this beautiful story was over. This sadness resulted in my relationship with reading to shatter, and I did not read a book for an extremely long time. Many years later in eighth grade, I remembered the joy that I had reading one of Ray Bradbury’s stories, so I wanted to read more. One day when thinking about what to read for my first book report, I decided to check my collection of books that my family had collected over the years. I walked into my basement that day in pitch black, and turning on the blinding light, I saw one of Bradbury’s stories, Fahrenheit 451. The plot contained within these dusty pages regained my passion for reading almost instantaneously, and then…

In conclusion, it is extremely evident how alternative lifeworld texts such as The Forever War, Cat’s Cradle and War With The Newts create commentaries and reflections on the social and historical context within which they were written. The authors use allegory, characters and thematic instances in order to comment and reflect. The realm of alternative lifeworlds fiction is particularly effective at exploring historic and social context, as it allows for critique and reasoned commentary. The nature of science fiction writing means as authors construct their commentaries in the form of the fantastical, they are removed from any possible criticism of the ideas they are presenting in their novels. Therefore, the historical and social commentaries…

However, Erickson has done just that. Creating five masterfully written short stories that captivate and excite readers, drawing them in and never letting go. I’m not choosing a favorite, since choosing a favorite would be like choosing a child and I love them all. I would say they are like reading short “Twilight Zone” excerpts only a thousand times better, more into the depths of Wells and other amazingly great sci-fi authors. There is something here for everyone, intriguing storylines that create underlying meaning and complex realities that lead to thought-provoking equations making this one book that will remain with you long after you’ve finished.…

Fiction novels and short stories are some of the most interesting and exciting texts there could be. Since fiction does not necessary has to be realistic at all, the limit an author has for writing a story is as far as his/her creativity can take him/her. Therefore, science fiction has a big variation of stories that range from the unthinkable to the impossible and that is what allows authors to create great pieces of work. In the novels Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, by Douglas Adams, The Bicentennial Man, by Isaac Asimov and The Martian Chronicles by Ray Bradbury, readers can clearly see straight away that all of these novels are fiction just by simply reading the beginning of them. These three novels share common aspects of fiction while…

In “A Rose for Emily” the setting is mostly one of deterioration and death, beginning with her house, which the town considered an “eye sore among eyesores”, the picture of decay. Emily’s house “smelled of dust and disuse – a close, dank smell” (DiYanni, 2008, p. 79).…

Science fiction writers, I am sorry to say, really do not know anything. We can't talk about science, because our knowledge of it is limited and unofficial, and usually our fiction is dreadful. A few years ago, no college or university would ever have considered inviting one of us to speak. We were mercifully confined to lurid pulp magazines, impressing no one. In those days, friends would say me, "But are you writing anything serious?" meaning "Are you writing anything other than science fiction?" We longed to be accepted. We yearned to be noticed. Then, suddenly, the academic world noticed…

My selection for this project was J.R.R. Tolkien. The reason I chose this individual was because of his books such as “The Hobbit” (J.R.R. Tolkien- 1936) this book has such realistic charactistics along with mythological characteristics. The other books I liked were “Lord of the Rings” which was broken into sequels. There orders were “The Fellowship of the Ring” and “The Two Tower” they were published in Great Britain in 1954. The third one was published in 1955 it was called “The Return of the King.” These great books kept me on my toes; I did not want to put them down. It is hard to actually find a good book to read that will keep your attention throughout and also make you feel like you are in the big picture yourself.…
