General Manager’s Speech
BOC Pettah branch was started in 1993 as the 4th branch to facilitate local business community. The then colonial rulers wanted to have a local bank to assist plantation industry. BOC was started with that thought in mind. Bank has given priority to Pettah commercial hub and started the 4th branch in this area. Until recently Pettah has been the center of distribution of all food items throughout the country. Pettah businessmen import essential items such as rice, dhal, onions, spices, clothing etc for the whole country. Our Pettah branch has been facilitating imports by various means. Opening letters of credit, international fund transfers, large volume credit facilities and other related services are given in a friendly atmosphere. Although almost all banks are operating their branches in Pettah, we maintain the No.1 position in Pettah too, because of customer loyalty and our service excellence. Bank of Ceylon has gained many achievements this year. We have been ranked among best 1000 banks in the world. BOC has been awarded the best brand in Asia. We are the No.1 bank in Sri Lanka continuously. Our asset base surpassed 1 trillion rupees a year ago. No other banks has been able to achieve this land mark in Sri Lanka up to now. All these achievements were made possible due to the contribution of our branch network including Pettah. Pettah branch caters to a large clientele. It is a corporate segment branch, Managed by an Assistant General Manager. Large number of staff is deployed to serve customers. From small scale retailer to large corporate customers are served by the branch. It has recorded considerable profits and a large value balance sheet. It is a testimony to the magnificent level Pettah branch rests today. Our Pettah branch has been assigned the huge task of issuing new notes among the general public, by central bank of Sri Lanka. This huge task is performed as a social responsibility by us towards the general public

    At yesterday’s town council meeting (3/6/17), the serious problems of Cottone Field took center stage. Concerned residents and students lined up to inform the council about the worn-out condition of the field which has recently caused injuries to several students. The injuries were due to the uplift of the base layer of silica sand which purpose is to act as a cushion.
